I installed it today but haven't finished configuration yet. It looks like I can use this to activate my garage door openers automatically, but I'll know more as I work through testing.

That's right, it's also available in Europe. I discovered it yesterday, and it's great news. It was announced that Home Assistant would be included in the PCM from the car's launch, but it hasn't arrived until now.

In the passenger display or the center display, select "Apps" from the list of options and then search for the Home Assistant app.

You need to have a running instance of Home Assistant somewhere to connect to. I'm configuring a user specifically for the car, but I haven't had time to complete the full setup yet.

I might be stating the obvious but Home Assistant requires a whole lof of things to get going, not just the CarPlay or Porsche App. It requires a server to run it, remote access, installing integrations to work with your home automation items, etc. It's well worth it if you can do it but I wanted to manage expectations that it's a whole ecosystem you have to set up.

Yes, the Porsche app "needs?" integrated WireGuard.

I pay NabuCasa for remote access to give them some money, but it does come in handy.

My garage doors are integrated with home assistant at home and they work with location identification on my iPhone. So, it should be "easy" (for me) to check if the car can take over for the phone user. My brother's Rivian seems to have this better integrated, but we'll see how close I can get the experience for my wife.

Nabucasa is the best option. Simple and secure. It also financially supports the Home Assistant project.

For Home Assistant users, in case you weren't familiar with it, there's a Porsche Connect integration via HACS. You get all the app data available in HA.

I also have my entire house controlled by HA, including the garage doors and security system. It's very useful to access all of this through PCM. So far, I've used HA on Android Auto; now I'll try the native PCM app.

HA is very difficult for non tech folks to set up and make work. Been there, done that. Plenty of hidden charges and land mines. But this is great for those already with the infrastructure.

For others, there are easier ways to open garage doors and turn on lights as you approach. My garage doors open for me automatically via as I approach as long as I'm carrying my iPhone. The driveway lights also tun on when its dark.
