We are going to take our first road trip. We have bike racks that secure onto our trailer hitch. My partner was curious if anyone knew the impact this will have on range? Doesn’t really matter, just curious if anyone had experience yet.

3% seems very optimistic. From tests I've seen it's always been closer to 15% range loss with a couple of bikes on the back (from other EVs, obv.)

I am very curious about the impact of (mountain) bikes mounted on the rear of the Macan. On my Taycan sedan, carrying mountain bikes on the roof significantly reduces the range, by as much as 30-40%. From general information available online, the range impact of bikes mounted on the rear seems to be around 10-30%.

Yesterday, we drove 250ish miles averaging 63 mph. 65 degrees F average temp. We had 2 heavy e-bikes on a hitch mount (batteries removed) on our Macan 4.

Without the bikes we would average 3.2 miles per kwh. With the bikes, we observed 2.7miles per kwh. So, around 15% impact.

We have a long trip planned and I’ll post more of our observations.

BTW, the hitch is by QuikrStuff in Colorado. Fantastic bit of engineering. Super easy to mount and remove with no tools. We aren’t young either so the low weight design really makes these a dream as we don’t like having racks on when we aren’t carrying bikes.
