Hi Folks,

I just got a text message (and Porsche app warning) that my Macan 4 EV has used 80% of its 3GB data plan. I have tried the onboard maps once just to see how it looks, and downloaded a 20-something MB game for fun. But that's all I (thought) I was using the car's built-in data plan for. But apparently I have downloaded 2+ GB of data somehow. Are these OTA upgrades, or does Apple Carplay use the car's data plan instead of my phone? Has anyone gone over the 3GB limit? If yes, will you be charged for going over? Thanks in advance for any info that you can provide!

Do you connect CarPlay via your car's Wifi? Or does your phone automatically connect to your Porsche's wifi? I did that at first and saw my Rogers data blow through in a week. Then I switched to only connect via Bluetooth and told my phone to forget the Porsche wifi network and the problem went away.

Hmm this is great info! Not sure how it connects, I didn't think of the car's WiFi taking over. Thanks, I'll look into this!

If you use the native apps like Spotify, YouTube etc (not via Car/Android Play) they will use your cars data plan.
When I use those apps via Carplay, they use my phones providers data.

We got the same notice from Rogers about a week ago. My wife's iPhone was connected to the car wifi, but not mine. We've set her phone to forget the car network and we'll see what happens.

We exceeded our plan capacity about 4-5 days before the end of the period. FWIW, the PCM features seemed to function fine until the start of the new billing period.
