Good news for Lucid I guess? I'd get a Lucid over the EQS and the i7 in a hearbeat, if I were in the market for a luxury EV sedan.

I own a BMW circa 2016 - a great car. I saw one of these new models at a car show (maybe it was a "5" or "3") and told the salesman that I couldn't understand why they would "Lexisize" a BMW. Why does an electric car need a grill??? Might as well put a couple of decorative, colored tailpipes on too, just for nostalgia.

I'm going to reserve final judgement until I see it in person but I don't mind how it looks outside and think the interior looks great. We also need to keep in mind that while most of us (myself included) really hated the "Bangle Butt" BMWs initially they sold very well and some, like the E60 5-series have aged pretty well. I owned a E63 series M6 and I grew to like the way it looked quite a bit.

One design philosophy thing that I think is a very smart play is that this front end treatment will be reserved for their top end vehicles only--one issue with Mercedes these days is that C, E and S sedans look largely identical especially the front and rear fascias. For some customers there will be real value in having their "flagship" car being readily identifiable as the flagship.

Bangle Butts were ugly then and then remain even moreso now. Hideous looking cars.

Ugly AF and drives like an oil tanker without doubt.

Wouldn't want to touch it with a 10 foot pole let alone pay 100K+ to have to drive it even be seen in it.

Technology is moving to EV's. EV's do not need big grills. All new EV's have no grill, smaller grills or fake grills.
It feels a lot like swimming against the tide.

(Personally I find almost all BMW to be rather ugly and/or boring. (Except for maybe the i8) I really don't understand what people like about it. But that's just a personal opinion.)

It is a chickenshit marketing strategy. BMW adopted a shared platform for EV, PHEV and ICE 7s and the result is nothing short of a be-all-things-to-all-people abortion. I'm just a little surprised that the clever Bavarians who designed this platform omitted the smokestack for a coal-fired 7.

Not sure who made the baffling decision to split up the headlights like that. It invokes images of a Pontiac Aztec. Not a car you wanna be associated with. It's nice to try something bold with design, but this ain't it. In fact, you could argue that the Taycan does exactly that, and does it perfectly.


On the other hand, I don't mind the interior - I think clean minimal interiors are quite cool and aesthetically pleasing.
