Hey guys!

Has anyone had issues with AC charging where the car gets “stuck” at roughly half the charging capacity and the charging indicator flashes red and green? I’ve had this happen multiple times. Previously I would also get a yellow warning saying “AC charging impaired, visit a dealer.”

After a long list of issues that you are probably familiar with, the dealer told me it was software-related. So it should have been solved after the “big update”. They have now replaced the entire charging systems on both sides of the car. However, immediately after leaving the dealer — literally at home the same day — the issue happened again.

The dealer keeps suggesting it could be my home charger, but I’ve had 6–7 loaner cars for weeks and even months without a single charging issue, so I’m struggling to believe that’s the cause. I haven’t spoken to them regarding today’s issue, but I would like to hear from you guys first.

I’m mainly wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar, and whether it could be related to the battery pack or something entirely different. After the latest update it has happened a few more times, but now without the yellow warning.

See attached photos for reference.

Appreciate any input!

Odd I just had the same occurrence last night. On my home charger I typically get rates of 9.2 kW. Last night when I plugged it in the car, it was stuck at 1.1 kW. At the same time, the Porsche app stopped updating the charging progress as well. After a couple hours, I unplugged the charger, turned the vehicle off, and then plugged the charger back in and everything worked normally. Hopefully just a one time glitch - I haven’t had that happen before.

Unsure if it’s related, but I had my software updated at the dealer earlier this week and this is my first charge since. in the brief time since the update, I have noticed I’m getting less driver assistance errors, which has been nice.

I've AC charged 20-30 times in the last 9 months without issue. Yesterday I plugged in and left the garage. When I checked later I see it failed to charge and a number of lights were flashing both at the Porsche brand EVSE and Macan. I unplugged and plugged in and just get an error and Christmas tree type lights. Porsche EVSE screen suggested rebooting the EVSE and things were good after the reboot. It is possible that the charge cable was bumped shortly after the charge was started which set it off into an error cycle.

This Macan has not seen a dealer since delivery in February, I tend to not try to fix things not broken. But its due for a couple campaign's and software update that I really should get around too..... but then it has been flawless and fixing something not broken..... 🤔

i have a tale to tell. Podpoint 22kw charger on site (private) at work - it really hated the Macan, high voltage faults incar dash warning, simply would not charge. called porsche recovery in panic. they said its fine but take to dealer. car worked after a few errors and i stopped using podpoint took car to dealer - 'no issue with car or batterypack sir'... all other AC chargers ran fine , all other cars on fleet charged at this rogue podpoint! tesla, audi, bmw etc etc/ pod point support were at a loss - couldnt figure out - porsche cust service team also... after much fecking around and shouting and blame games ended up with pod point removing the charger FOC and refunding the og charge over over £1,000 installed... (and a gift voucher from Porsche also) I installed a syncev BG 22kw - and never looked back - NO ONE AT PODPOINT or PORSCHE would engage on what was up - but suspect theres issues with certain changers, cld be the general newness of the 800v architecture? (guess) - avoided podpoint until, my mums 7kw one last week didn't blink, no sweat - so maybe 22kw unit specifically 3 years old firwamare ? they could have fixed that so must have been more fundamental - but why not explain... ?? moral of story some brands and specific models no so compatible. careful out there!

Did you find resolution to this? our 24 EV just had the central charge controller replaced after failing. Along with the latest, full software updates.

My wife is charging at her office, 6.8kw charge point units. It's charging at 1/2 that. It's never, ever charged at less than about 6.2 (registered in the car, and showing in chargpoint app).

Same thing happened yesterday connected to a different charger (they have a dozen of them). It's charging at 3.1kw.

I will try at home tonight to see what happens. I have a 9.6kw charger at home.

They replaced the high-voltage battery system under the rear seats, and after that everything worked again, if I remember correctly.

If your car isn't showing any yellow or red warnings while it's charging slower than usual, there's a chance the issue could be with the charger rather than the car itself. Every time I experienced charging at roughly half the normal speed, the car displayed a clear warning message.

I'd suggest trying it at home first to see if the same thing happens. If it does, it's still worth contacting your dealer even if no warning appears. It could also be related to a few faulty battery cells. I vaguely remember the service department mentioning a similar case where they replaced the affected cells and resolved the issue.

Ha yeah that is exactly what I had replaced due to L2 charge errors.

BUT

False alarm.

Turns out my wife's company installed a few new chargers and just turned them on (Chargepoint brand, each pedestal has 2 charge connections). These are the same other units they had. Well, the new ones are LOAD SHARING (She talked to their facilities manager) so if 2 people are using the one pedestal, you get 3kwh, if there is only one charging you get 6kwa. The old units they have both users will get 6kwa. I am guessing they didn't have sufficient power available to do more.

Anyway, all is well...

I think load sharing is common in commercial chargers. I have a friend who drives a Tesla and he has said their fast chargers share capacity in pairs. So when you pull up to a Tesla bank of chargers it the same curtesy rules as urinals. Leave an open one between your fellow users when possible.
