I think a lot of you fellas on this forum have grown soft with all this tech in the cars. When I’m driving I’m fully involved, meaning I turn on and off my high beams, I turn my head when in reverse, I fully control the climate settings, never auto, including having the ac off most of the time to save energy (turn it on once a month to refresh the seals), and I can parallel park perfectly without help from the car.
You belong to the age of the dinosaurs! Soon to be an extinct species. Maybe a generation or two? Maybe sooner… lol

My species may go extinct but I will be remembered 66 million years from now.

I agree that you have to manually park, because the margins needed for the park assists are much bigger than what's actually available around here, and I can squeeze into available spaces much better than the automation. I also learned driving on a stick (VW Golf GTI, baby!)

High-beams, rear sensors/camera, cruise control, lane following, and climate control are all very nice, though! I don't see any reason not to use the A/C though, if the weather isn't in the 60s. Yes, it might use a small amount more energy, but if you really wanted to save money, you'd drive a used Nissan Leaf or something like that.

I wasn’t trying to dismiss @Rocket Roger’s abilities. Most of the more seasoned forum members (pardon me if you’re actually a youngster!) know how to do all those things. I can also parallel park in tight spaces and handle “old-school” tasks like changing a tire, driving a stick shift, and doing various DIY car repairs.

But as cars become more technologically advanced, fewer people— even in my own generation— still know how to do these things. I’ll admit, I enjoy the conveniences: I don’t miss unfolding and reading paper maps— hello GPS, I love you! I prefer using automated high beams, and while situational awareness is important, I do rely on cameras and sensors. I also like leaving climate control on auto, which is somewhat of an issue as my wife constantly changes it when she drives with me.

I genuinely enjoy the pure driving feel of a Porsche, but I also recognize where technology is heading. Just last week, I did a 10-hour round trip from Atlanta to Nashville in my wife’s Tesla Model X (have to take advantage of the free lifetime DC charging!) and used Full Self Drive the entire time. It’s incredible— the car really does drive itself, and I wasn’t the least bit tired afterward. I wouldn’t switch cars, no way! But I would absolutely expect Porsche to offer comparable tech in the future. They seem to be considering it as they were inquiring about our level of interest for this on a survey at the Porsche Advisors Club.

Sorry for the long message— I may have drifted a bit. My main point is that many manual skills are becoming less common and may eventually fade for younger generations.
