Hey everyone,

I am planning to use the 4 as an adventure vehicle (until Rivian arrives in the EU). The Taycan seems to have this rear rack but it requires a special config at build time. Couldn't find that option for the Macan 4 tho. Wondering if they are planning to launch something like this or I need to go with an ordinary hitch mount.

Opting for tow hitch myself. Lots of good bike racks to choose from if you do

Thanks for the replies. The dealer just said that the Macan won't have a special rack like the Taycan (stronger body I suppose?!). I had a Thule and I was very disappointed by the complexity and the low built quality of the rack (It was a roof one). I am planning to stick to Yakima

The Thule sourced BMW top carrier on our X5 was half the price of the exact same unit from Thule. Seems like they are drifting a bit, hopefully get an injection of improved quality and cost containment at some point.

I also ordered my Macan 4 with the tow hitch to use the bike rack but I have a BMW bike rack. Hope it will fit.

It’s a regular 2” receiver on the Macan, if your bike rack is standard it’ll work.

Nice, I was thinking of throwing my BMW branded Thule car carrier up there in ski season to confuse folks.

I am new to this forum and my 2025 Macan EV, and hope I'm not repeating a question already discussed and answered. I wanted to spec a trailer hitch but I couldn't wait for the order delivery process, so decided to purchase an available Macan EV without one. The dealer said any hitch installers (e.g. UHaul) can install one for me since it will only be used for a bike rack and not for towing. Has anyone had experience in having a quality trailer hitch installed similar in appearance to the OEM? If so, which model and installed by whom? (I live in the San Francisco Bay Area.) On my BMW, having a bike rack interfered with the rear camera and sensors. I hope using the bike rack on the Macan would have minimal impact to the sensors and cameras, etc.

get a tow hitch while ordering the car and purchase a thule epos 2 from your local thule dealer. or one of the several online bike shops in europe. cost of the bike rack ±1000 €. there of course several other options for bike racks but the epos is one of the best available in europe.

Thanks for the rack recommendation but i already have one. i couldn’t wait to spec and order so ended up purchasing a new Macan off the dealer lot without the hitch. So i’m now looking for aftermarket hitch installation recommendations that resembles OEM.

my bike rack has always been interfering with rear cams and parking sensors in every car that i had.. i expect it to do the same with the macan when i have it delivered. i used to disable sound notifications but i dont think you can do anything for the camera.

I finally got some answers from my Dealer Service Rep. The official Macan tow hitch package is available for ~$1,650+ tax, and installation will be an additional ~$1,450. So the total installed cost would be ~$3,100 + tax. This is significantly more than I was expecting, for example $1,300 Tow Package, from Tesla, installed. Not knowing of any other qualified options that would not botch up the function or appearance of the Macan, I'm inclined to bite the bullet and just get it done. ?

I guess US spec is different from EU/AU. Mine was AU$1650 when spec'd with the car. It's one of those disappearing towball things, so it folds away under the car when not in use. Not quite as versatile as the square receiver-type, but better aesthetics.

The official bike carrier solution for the Macan here in Aus is a "Roof transport system main support" (95C 860 019)- ie crossbars for the roof rails, and one or two roof bike racks which are just Porsche-branded Thule jobs (95B 044 831). I did look up prices for the Porsche flavour and the Thule, and they were pretty close.

Porsche here in Aus won't discount their cars, but they do move a bit on parts. The roof rails were around AU$900, and the bike racks around AU$400 each. This was a saving of around $400 off list price... all of which they made back because I asked them to fit them - first experience of Porsche workshop prices )

I'm a bit disappointed with the bike racks themselves - I'd hoped they'd be a relatively simple procedure to get on and off but they're actually a bit of a fiddle. Easy but not simple, I guess. I don't want to drive around with them on all the time as they're bound to affect range. The Porsche workshop boys seemed to think they should just be left on. You have to take the ends off the roof rails, screw/unscrew the tensioner bolts, slot them in/out, and re-arrange the rubber inserts in the top of the cross members each time.

I also have a 3 bike Yakima tow hitch bike carrier which I used with my old Audi dinosaur-burner. I haven't tried it yet but hopefully it will fit. It came with a slightly taller towball to replace the standard ball used in most hitches here. The factory-fit Macan ball is one integrated piece, so can't be changed. I'll find out when I get back from holiday.

One of the EV mags or online youtubers did a range comparison with tow hitch carriers vs roof, and found the roof carriers affected range more. This wasn't on the Macan so our cars may be different. I thought it would be the other way around - less frontal area with bikes on the roof, but I guess that air is flowing over the bike when they're on the hitch carrier, rather than into/through them.

If I can be 4rsed, I may do some comparisons - range with and without the empty carriers on the roof vs bikes on the roof vs bikes on the bum. Or not - my laziness may prevail!

Thanks for the tip on getting a discount on parts. I will ask the dealer if he's in a giving mood...

I wish I had the luxury of time to wait for a custom spec order, but I was in dire need of a car after my daily ride, a BMW which died suddenly (timing chain disaster). And with the threat of tariffs here in the US, I was under the gun to settle for a ready to go Macan on a dealer's lot which unfortunately did not have a tow hitch.

BTW, I had a roof rack system that looks very close to yours but on my aforementioned BMW. On one unfortunate day, I ran my car right into my garage, fully loaded with two expensive carbon fiber road bikes! Yikes! I still cringe every time I park into that garage. ?. The body damage to my BMW alone was $5,000+. Two wrecked road bikes and damaged roof/gutters, I was so upset with myself that I tossed the entire system and tried to forget that the experience ever happened. This also happened to my cycling buddy, not once but twice! Anyway, safe to say that I've learned my lesson and will not trust myself with a roof rack system. Ever.

So please be careful with your bikes on roof rack!

Mounting a bike on the roof? You should be 2 meters tall or use a ladder .... on my previous cars I tried them both on the roof and on the tow bar and the practicality and autonomy go in favor of the tow bar. On the macan I have not tried it yet
