I charge my car to 80% overnight with the Porsche charger. I set a departure for 6:30 am and preheat my car. Battery temp about 55-57 F Car is in a garage at 50f

I live in chicago.

Morning: range says 200. Within the first 1-3 miles it drops 10-20 miles and then stabilizes for my 40 mile drive.

The charger is connected until departure.

Evening- I am in a garage and the battery temp is 38-40f. I only lose 3-5 miles in range from starting. Maybe 10-15 min of preheating. Not connected to power.

Car has 1700 miles. No aggressive driving. Normal mode.

I don’t understand the large drop off in the first few miles in the morning with the car in a warm garage and connected to power but much less drop off if the car and battery are cold.

This is how Taycan behaves as well. My guess it has to do when the calculation of range is happening based on previous driving data which is a guess-o-meter.

I would try and compare it to the estimate when navigation is in use vs. not.

However, what you are doing to setup your morning drive is text book. Awesome.

Just speculation: you're in Chicago in December. What is ambient? I'm thinking maybe the start mileage is based on 50 degrees in your heated garage; the car soon "realizes" it's really 30 or whatever and recalculates based on that? in the evening it's already close to ambient before you start out.

Previous driving data and (since you're in Chicago) external temperature. I have the same behavior in the morning (temperature under 0C) it loses 5/10 km of range as soon as I drive it for 1 or 2 km. It regain it along the drive (but it's 100/200 km drive). When I drive the car back home (temperature over 5/10C) it doesn't lose anything (and usually it gain something since I have slower speed due to traffic).

Agree that this is the most likely reason. The ambient temp in the garage vs outside is much higher thus calculated range is higher than one based on the colder outside temp.
