Does the car update software itself at home, like Tesla? I'm guessing yes, otherwise not much point to getting the car on my house's wifi?

:CWL:

Porsche's notion of OTA is that they now eMail you to take the car to the dealership so they can keep it for a few days to apply the software update.

I wouldn't worry about it too much.

NOTE: emailing that there is software and Porsche admitting that they need to update it _IS_ progress from where they were a few years ago.

ok, good to know. one thing I observed; once I got the car on the wifi, then my phone seemed to join the car's wifi. the car was acting as a wifi hotspot which my phone auto-joined (I presume because of the pre-existing relationship with bluetooth and apple carplay). but then carplay didn't really want to run. so I turned the car's wifi back off.

I added the vivaldi web browser, the youtube app, and the accuweather app. the web browser works pretty well. I think it works on the passenger screen too

the "basic" data plan provides date for the car and the car's apps - but not internet for any devices joined to the wifi hotspot - you have to upgrade to the "premium" data service for the car's wifi to provide interenet services to phones and tablets connected to the wifi hot spot…

you can get information abou thte data pass from the myPorsche app…
