why wouldn't 3rd party mechanics be able to look at the battery health? apparently there's tools that anyone can buy to do that...
When I last looked for available tools a month ago, I was unable to buy one that looked at Macan EV battery health. I also asked a local Porsche shop and they told me they couldn't buy the tools. And I asked an EV specialist mechanic and they told me they didn't have access to anything. Do you have a specific offering in mind?

Very interesting. One more factoid: the presenter stated that the "electric" badge is a regulatory requirement in the US to protect first responders. Assuming this is true, it would explain why deletion is not an option and strongly suggests that we ought not to remove that badge ourselves.

When i bought my car I had the same questions and don't remember the exact numbers but it was just as you said. They basically told me its great because you only need to do it once every two years vs annually but the cost was approximately doubled .. which made me laugh and declined it.
The ICE/EV comparison is easily misread as the time periods are different.

They don't seem to offer a 6 year scheduled plan for ICE cars, but comparing US plan costs over the years:

4 years:
Macan ICE $6425
Macan EV $3000

Two Years:
Macan ICE $2900
Macan EV $1400

Regardless, one may want to consider that the unscheduled 2 year service may be much more than $1400 when the time comes.... and there may be a warranty consideration. I think there is a grace period if you want to reconsider.

I actually knew that and assumed we had discussed it here. I knew because I tried to get the electric badge deleted for an order and was denied. Some people may remember that Porsche (at least my dealer) was advertising you could delete the badges for a while. And I tried to get all badges deleted because they just get in the way during washing.

But I kept the badges after delivery because of what I learned about the first responder requirement.

SteveKirkland - Coincidently I listened to a podcast with an interview of a guy from a business that provides tests and certification on EV batteries via an App.

He believes this will be a big market for used car sales as he thinks a lot of buyers are wary of buying used EV’s with the true degradation / range being unknown. The podcast was aimed at used car dealers. Their website is - https://clearwatt.co.uk/ev-health-test

I'll look forward to seeing an announcement of a working example of such a tool that works with a Macan EV. I haven't seen one yet. And I've looked.

I appreciate ClearWatt's efforts. I hope for the best for them.

ClearWatt's estimation method relies on a proprietary algorithm using proxy data correlated with the displayed data from the dashboard display. It might work. But there are also pretty standard test methods that are published, peer reviewed, and used by everyone else.

ClearWatt's business model clearly benefits over time from regulatory efforts to standardize the reporting of EV battery health. In that near future, cheating (or miss-estimating or however you want to characterize it) the displayed data becomes a problem for the automaker.

Earlier in the thread, I said I inquired about the cost of the Porsche maintenance plans. I was quoted higher than MSRP listed on the Porsche website but I still have no explanation of the actual services. The 2 and 4 year services seem fairly easy to make out but the heading of "general maintenance" is a bit of a head scratcher.

A few of my friends have also inquired about the costs and I'm accumulating examples from different dealerships. So far, we have 3responses and the difference is about $100 to $400 for each service. (A fun note for those who haven't seen the cars in the wild, we could drive together as a Macan EV, Macan 4 EV, Macan 4S EV, and Macan Turbo EV group.)


Pre-Paid Maintenance (PSMP) – Individual Plans

2 Years / 20,000 Miles - $1,525

4 Years / 40,000 Miles- $1,970

6 Years / 60,000 Miles- $ 4,075



Pre-Paid Maintenance (PSMP) – If purchased plans together

2 Years / 20,000 Miles & 4 Years / 40,000 Miles - $3,250

My dealer discounted the 2 year service plan during negotiations ($1325 from $1400 MSRP), but there is not much margin to work with, about $100. If I recall correctly the dealer cost was $1300. Dealer markup will vary.

Unless I'm reading the quotes incorrectly, the cabin filter and replacement of the bottle of tire sealant is at least $200 more than if I replaced these myself.
