I have usb with several videos I formatted in FAT32, they worked pretty well in my Taycan’s PCM, after I moved the usb and installed in the Macan EV, few video files have title, most of them appear as a Stereo. I reset the PCM, used another usb, still the same. Also I have the videos organized in folders, and the Macan PCM can’t read because when I click to open the folders are empty. The only way to see the videos is clicking the usb/video in the PCM, they showed as a long list with the few with metadata on top, the rest of the list down Showing as Stereo. If I click the stereo files I can see the videos, but no way to keep it organized in folders with titles. Any suggestions?

I noticed this naming problem today when trying to see what can be played from USB. The first time, the play time was also listed, but on playing one and returning to the list, that data had gone too.

The good news is that the manual is wrong about video bit rates: 2000kps and 720x576px max resolution - this is not so!

I have a HD video at 10000kps playing just fine - 1920x800px. I did see that it claimed there were subtitles, and that video has Stereo and 5.1 soundtracks. I need to play with this a bit to see where the limits are.

I did have to use exFAT for the larger video file sizes.

Here's a short playback of that video from my phone.

After some digging, my videos have QuickTime metadata tags for the names of the audio tracks in the video file - 'Track 2 Name' and 'Track 3 Name' in my case - and these are 'Stereo' and 'Surround' as output by Handbrake, the tool I use to convert originals to the smaller size.

Changing these is...not as easy as it should be. None of the tools I have can change these in-place. But the creator of one of these tools has a support post about this case, and there is a solution.

You can re-build the MP4 file by copying all the streams - Video and Audio - embedded in them, and then you can set the values of these tags in the new MP4

The tool to do this is called 'ffmpeg' and it's a command line tool, so a pain to setup and use.

However, the results are promising, as can be seen here. But it seems that my initial attempt has caused the actual video title to be used instead of my replacement names for the audio parts. Still more useful though!

One thing though. This video plays great on the central screen. Even at stop lights when stopped. The 'can't play this now' message when moving indicates that you must be in Park to view the video. My data point suggests not. The audio does continue when the video is hidden, which for the movies you've watched a million times turns out to be Ok!

Ok, I think I have this working well. There are a few steps involved, and needs some familiarity with installing and running tools, at least on a Mac.
  1. Rip your content from DVD/Blueray etc.
  2. I use a program called Handbrake to convert the ripped content, depending on the aspect ratio, to a max of 1920x800 pixels - this is 2.4/1 aspect ratio, which some movies are already in. For other content, I turn Anamorphic to 'off', and allow upscaling for older DVD videos to ensure everything is 800 tall.
    • If you already have a 4k or other high quality rip available, you can use this as the source too.
  3. If the content is HDR, I also set a Colorspace Filter to BT.709 from 'none'
This gets you a video that displays ok, but with the poor naming as noted in the first post.

Then I use a tool called 'ffmpeg' as I noted previously to rename the audio parts. This causes the PCM to now use the file name of the video in the display, so we set that to the name of the movie with the .mp4 extension.

Copy to a USB (I have a top level folder for videos), plug into the car, wait for the videos to appear in the list as the USB is scanned, and they're ready to play!

The PCM's audio track selection is messed up - when I try to use it, a different video is played instead. I can imagine this part of the software has not had a lot of love from Porsche.

Did a little more testing. The center screen seems to be about 2150 pixels wide, for an aspect ratio of about 2.68:1. So if you have a rip of Ben Hur or something in full width CinemaScope, then bring popcorn and crank up the volume!
