SMS messages in PCM

Anyone found a way to access SMS messages in PCM? I know that I can activate Android Auto or CarPlay and get access to messages that way, but I am used to also having that option directly in the car's infotainment system. However, I can't figure out a way to do this in the Macan. Have also tried to find an app that can help me with this, but with no success

I’ve noticed that some functions still seem hit or miss depending on the phone model. Has anyone found a phone that works especially well with the PCM for texts lately? Would be great to know what’s working for others.

What phone do you have and how is it connected? Also, the car won't display text messages, it will only read them aloud to prevent driver distraction.

There are so some small gotchas that can affect the ability to access text messages. For example, a friend of mine has a Taycan and her car would not read aloud the messages that her iPhone received, even though the phone was connected via wireless CarPlay and making phone calls, using Waze etc all worked flawlessly.

It took me a while to figure out that she had accidentally enabled the option to require Face ID when opening the Message app on her phone (you do this by long-pressing on the icon and choosing the option from the menu). That didn't impact her ability to open the Messages app on the phone because she would be looking at the phone anyway, but this does prevent the car from accessing the messages.

Manual says that messages can be "read or recited aloud" - suggests you can read the text as text on the screen as would with any other Porsche - is this a misprint in the manual? Normally, texts can only be read when stationary (safety feature) and hence the recital option.

Should work the same as long as CarPlay or Android Auto not active - I don't use either and always use the standard features of the PCM.

Does this not work?

The message can be read out loud when it is received, but I have not found a way to access and read messages. The text you are quoting mentions iPhone, but I have an Android phone (Google Pixel 10), so maybe there is a difference there

I had the same issue and ended up using a simple workaround by integrating an sms api with my phone’s notifications. Now, when I get a message, it pushes a notification that shows up on the PCM screen. It’s not the perfect setup, but it gives me message visibility without waiting on a native fix.
