šŸ¤£ OT: So much for the secret handshake to exchange top-secret informationā€¦

If anything @Petzi, I think it highlights that the forum doesnā€™t have a single geographic region for ā€˜Asiaā€™ - but has 9 regions dedicated for just the US (Iā€™m not fussed) but it might be worthwhile for others.

Hey @Mavshyn!

Happy to field any questions you might have (if I can answer) from a Malaysian buying experience - please just PM me

Of course, if you think the wider group would benefit, feel free to ask in the thread (as @Petzi has pointed out above :brokenhearted::giggle:)

Hey, thanks very much for review. I'm in the same thinking of if I want to take porsche dashcam. having your review in our part of the world convince me to just install it even though it is much more expensive then the typical aftermarket options.

I would also like to ask you some other questions, is it fine to PM you?

TLDR: In my experience, the Porsche Dashcam is expensive due to ā€˜ Porsche Taxā€™ but at same time it just works and should be a good option for those wanting to go down the ā€˜Originalā€™ route (for whatever reason)
Thanks for posting. This is good info and answered some of the pending questions I had. My 2025 Macan 4 was delivered to the dealership last week and they've got it in the shop now installing the dashcam and completing the PDI. Hopefully it will be ready for me to pick up in the next few days.

Actually, thinking about this a little more - the ideal situation would be that Dashcam connects to PCM directly via wifi (nothing new for those that do), BUT given that PCM is now on a new OS (Android Auto), Porsche should develop an app/allow us to download the Porsche Dashcam app to PCM directly so that we can run the app and configure everything in-car but more importantly, let us view recordings using the vehicleā€™s display.
This is a GREAT idea. I couldn't agree more. Eliminating the need for an app on an external device would be a big step forward.

Though, I would argue, that Porsche really should just take that step to its logical conclusion and bypass the need for external dashcams at all. Today's modern cars have multiple cameras built in all around. Include a dashboard app into the infotainment, allow the driver to plug in a flash drive, and just record the video directly from the built-in cameras. This is the one and only feature from my Model Y that I miss. Rivian and Polestar were smart to copy this idea from Tesla, and I don't know why all OEMs aren't doing it. Seems like a no brainer.

Surely not a huge ā€˜leapā€™ to make this a more seamless implementation. Maybe even the current Android App can be used as-is?
Love the idea but thatā€™s a big ask from Porsche who has been behind on software integration and features.

I totally agree - with camera/vision/radar systems already built in to the vehicle this absolutely should be the way forward.

However as @themacnut has also pointed out (above), system integration, UI/UX hasnā€™t been one of Porscheā€™s strongest suitsā€¦ I guess the beauty with a ā€˜bolt-onā€™ Dashcam is that you donā€™t really need to account for (any) integration; just give it power and itā€™s basically done.

The ā€˜beautyā€™ I see in giving us the Dashcam app in our new (Android Auto) PCM comes from the fact that it shouldnā€™t really cost Porsche anything. Iā€™m sure the existing app for Android (phones) should useable as-is (or very much close-to). It would just be a matter of putting in on the ā€˜availableā€™ list of apps for the vehicle and youā€™d give everyone the ability to connect with the Dashcam in pretty much a ā€˜seamlessā€™ fashion using the central display (a huge win imo).

ā€¦Probably would help Porsche move a lot more original Dashcams as well given this ā€˜integrationā€™.
