That's a significant number of lost jobs, but Porsche also has years to make those cuts. Many will be covered by routine retirements and resignations, while others may take early retirement.

It's also quite possible that those plans will change (either up or down) in the next nine years.

Porsche to cut 1 in 5 jobs by 2035

https://www.reuters.com/business/world-at-work/porsche-cut-another-5000-jobs-2026-07-27/

To me, the main issue facing current owners from this will be whether it reduces or eliminates software improvements on existing vehicles.
Porsche doesn’t really support their vehicles with Software after sales anyway so I doubt it has a big impact.
Also these cuts go along with strategy changes to offer less car variants and a shift towards more exclusive, more expensive cars.
And if you want to sell cars you need less people, it is as simple as that.

Porsche really needs to reassess how they distribute and manage their dealer network. One of the biggest recurring issues on these forums is the huge inconsistency in service depending on where you’re located, and the sheer incompetence you sometimes encounter. That simply shouldn’t be acceptable for a brand like Porsche and is damaging it as a whole.

EVs in general are poorly supported by legacy auto makers that have dabbled in them, as well as their dealers. They have decades of experience selling and servicing ICE vehicles, and seem to be reluctant and ignorant when it comes to EVs. If they don't adapt, they will eventually be left behind.

As we all know the transition to EVs has slowed down, but it is unstoppable. While automakers have revised their EV plans, giving up on them now and then having to play catchup later is shortsighted.

The Porsche news article states that they will be disclosing some future product plans at an investor meeting "this autumn". Maybe more on the strategy then. I'd like to see them commit to an EV sports car to join the ICE 911. That might be too much to hope for. It will be interesting to hear their plans for their "cash cow" SUV/CUV vehicles, whether ICE or EV. I do fear they are going to head even further upmarket in pricing...

If they do an EV sports car it will be the 718 likely because they’ve already spent 3 to 5 years developing it. That said I wouldn’t hold my breath.for that to happen any time soon.
