I going skiing in sweden tomorrow and are a bit worried about the temperature as it will drop to minus 24 celsius later this week, tried the routine putting the selector in sportplus today but no changes in battery temperature in 30 mins

Then you don’t have the Sport Chrono package ? As that option will make sure it heats up indeed.

you can just set a destination as DC fast charger no need to be as a stopover ... I tested this several times ...
I have a DC fast charger at 500meter of my door, I can set it as final destination do some errands and it will heat up the battery ... it will re route the complete time, but my battery will heat up an after 30 minutes to 60 minutes it will be nice and toasty.
You just need to make sure the Nav sees it as a DC fast charger, which sometimes is a hassle, so make sure you select the right address.

The sport plus will only work if you have the chrono package ... I have sport plus for suspension only, as I did not see the benefit, regret not have taken that cheap option.
Oh, really? Never worked in the Taycan like that for me and assumed the Macan EV would be mo different.

You'll waste some energy doing that. Interesting to learn if stopover works well for you.

Thanks, @Yves. I see the difference in the PCP. I do have chrono, so do have the option to use sport+, but that will be a last resort.

I have the Sport Chrono package. Sport+ does NOT heat the battery like preconditioning does

What may happen is that the car might be blocking the cooling of the car whilst driving to allow the battery to warm up a bit more before the cooling is applied, but you’ll need to drive around a lot to generate the heat if that is the case

One more note, when the car is preconditioning, you can stop and select the option to leave the car running and preconditioning will continue during this time. You could do this waiting at home if you live close to the charger!

To address a couple items in this discussion.
I am waiting for my car to get built in January but I feel reasonably confident that you could route to a Charger as a destination, and as long as you set the minimum charge at destination in the settings to a high value, such that the car would know it needs to charge them it would do the necessary preconditioning in route.

On the second topic of having a manual precondition button, which is discussed in a plethora of YouTube videos for all sorts of vehicle vehicles. I personally think this is the wrong approach for several reasons:
  1. A mere mortal would not know when to use such a button. You would have to know how quickly the battery could be heated to the appropriate temperature for the state of charge that it would have on arrival.
  2. If driving for over 30min the battery would be up to a reasonable temperature for discharging so charging would not be excessively slow. IMHO
  3. Heating the battery does take significant energy such that doing it manually when not needed or longer that necessary could end up extending your charging session due to needing more power.
There is another thread on battery preconditioning, but it gets a bit aggressive.

I hope to have direct experience soon. I did have a Taycan for 5 years and 100k miles.

I did my first "long" journey yesterday and on the way back I decided to put Fleet services as the charging destination when I was about 20 miles from it. The battery termperature didnt go above 18-19c. Wondering if I did something wrong?

It was a 180kW charger and I only got 60kW while charging.

@icehot simply adding a charging station as a destination will typically not figure preconditioning as stated earlier in this thread. The car needs to think you need to charge. To accomplish that you:
  1. Have to put a final destination that would require charging and have the desired charging station as a stopover.
  2. Alternatively set minimum charge level at final destination to a high value like 70% and set charging station as destination.
