Has there been any talk about getting vehicle to load, that is, you run your house off your cars battery? And i dont mean just the regular outlet in the trunk.

not from Porsche…for North America

this thread discusses the realities of powering your North American home with _ANY_ supplemental power supply (battery, EV, generator, kids-on-tread-mill)

https://www.taycanforum.com/forum/threads/power-your-home.2857/#post-39139

the core problem is 99% of american residential homes do not have the necessary equipment to allow them to to power themselves…the EV and it's capacity is only one small part…you need to have your home electrical grid ready to isolate itself from the larger grid…

Good callout. as a side note, the Powerwall gateway was actually a third party product until a few years ago, made by SolarEdge. I forget which gen powerwall jettisoned the SolarEdge hardware, I think it was gen 2 with the integrated inverters?

There are a fair number of solar installations with the right hardware these days, but I have to think the market for this is small enough that it’s hard to put resources into - unless the car company is selling the system as a feature and add-on for the car.

They’d probably need to partner with an installer, not unlike what car companies do for the EVSE installation they offer, however the gateway installation is much more complex because it has to be inserted between your meter and your main panel (or whatever you want to run).

The other consideration is wear and tear. If you’re using it regularly like a home solar battery, it might be a better value to just spend a bit on a solar battery.

I’ve had a SolarEdge/LG battery (48kwh) system for about four years now and overall it has been spectacular. We don’t have much in the way of outages here but we can store what we produce, use it at night, and top off the cars with any excess solar. The missing piece is to be able to add in the EV battery to augment the home batteries in the case of some extended emergency.
