Rear wiper or not ?

I've taken many cars without rear wipers on ski trips (plus I live in the rainy PNW) and it's always been fine. I think the rear wiper gets overrated.

Get ceramic/water repellent applied. My Rivian has a tiny little rear wiper and I've yet to actually use it.

Sure rain will roll off, sure snow may not always accumulate - but dirt and crap 100% will, making the rear window impossible to see through.

I have the rear wiper and would 100% get it again.

I never had a wiper in my i4 eDrive 40, I had just before this Macan, and I never felt I was missing the wiper.
Macan back is just like a sedan, in heavy rain or mist I turned on the rear-window heating for a little while and rearview was fine.
I never got to the stage when dirt and crap accumulated. When that happens, you know that your whole car needs washing. And I never get my car washed regularly.
The only scenario I imagine for dirt and crap to accumulate is if I take the car off-road somewhere really muddy. I have only driven, local, country roads and motorways but never felt that rear wiper was needed.

How many times you'll be following your own car and looking at it from the back vs how many times you'll be sitting in the inside and looking back?

Heating the rear screen or using water repellent is not a replacement for a wiper as otherwise rear wipers would not exist. For me, it is a must as it clears the rear window instantly and I feel lot safer!

Fair enough. I guess everyone feels differently.
By the way, have you ever owned a sedan? There is never a rear-wiper there.

Yes, I did own sedans and one of the reasons I didnt like them was because of the lack of rear wipers IMHO, rear wiper on Macan EV looks better than the Macan ICE.

Exactly.
Sedans don't have a rear wiper, and Macan is much like it at the rear window.
As you say, putting on the heated rear screen for a couple of minutes clears rain/snow.
By the way, someone posted here somewhere how much adding each option loses range, and for the rear wiper it came to about 5 km ie 3 miles loss. So, not much.

it’s one of the reasons I like Porche as you have the option. Clearly some people want a rear wiper despite lots of us saying it’s not needed when we have same weather. It’s good they have the choice when so many other makes lump extras in packs so you end paying for what you would rather not have to get something essential to you.
A good example is that I specd an Audi Q6 Etron and to get what I wouldn’t do without cost nearly £20k more than my Macan 4 and I would have ended up with a sun roof, big wheels and all leather all of which I dislike

One thing to keep in mind is that unlike the ICE Macan, the EV has the spoiler below the rear window, so there is no turbulent low-pressure area over the glass where dirt, rain and snow swirl around and wind up settling on the glass. The air will flow smoothly and carry things across the glass, at least while the car is moving.

It won't be perfect, but the Macan EV rear window is significantly less likely to get covered with stuff.

Didn’t spec it on mine - and definitely don’t miss it. Not even in the good old English weather.
I’ve coated mine with Anglewax and have no problems.

Here are a few very good choices for excellent hydrophobic glass sealant/repellants.
The first one is the one I intend to use, the costlier ones may last a little longer.

I live in a 4 season climate and wife was set on getting a rear wiper. I spec'ed everything else on the car so it was a good compromise.

If we never use it I will do a rear wiper delete and 3d print a plug to fill in the void.

I wish we didn't have to choose between acoustically & thermally insulated glass and a rear wiper -- I would have spec'd both if that were possible. Given that I am in Southern California and summer heat is a bigger concern than rain and snow, I punted on the rear wiper and upgraded the glass.

Without a rear wiper pretty much looks the same as your side mirrors, in my opinion. Hope this helps.
