My wife asked me some questions today that I'm not certain about. For these questions, assume the Macan EV has Innodrive and adaptive cruise control enabled.

  1. When adaptive cruise control brings you to a complete stop at a stoplight or just behind traffic, does the brake light always display when you're slowing down and stopped?
  2. Like (1), but is regenerative braking engaged to slow the car? If it is just regenerative braking, it is very impressive.
  3. Like (1), why does the car wait so long to start to stop? Even when following distance is set to the max setting, the car seems to wait until the last possible moment to start to slow down.

All EVs use brake lights when regen or autopilots are active. So yes, if you're slowing there are brake lights. The majority of braking on the Macan will be regen, yes.

The car doesn't begin to slow until it registers a vehicle or the vehicle ahead of you slowing. It then attempts to feather the brakes, rather than slam them. It doesn't always translate to human like behavior but it's normal.

I would add, the brakes lights turn on when you depress the brake pedal, but if you have regen on (as minimal as it may be) and lift off the throttle the brake lights do not turn on. Other manufacturers that offer one-pedal drive are similar in that the car must decel above a certain threshold to activate the brake lamps.

Thanks. A key part of this question is that the automated system (adaptive cruise control) is completely controlling the deceleration of the vehicle and she never depresses the brake pedal. She's asking whether the person behind her is going to see a brake light while the car's computer system decelerates the car (whether it uses regenerative braking or brakes).
