Spotify keeps playing in background

Hi All,

Just realised this that if ou connect your spotify account and have it playing, pressing the lest "stop" button on the steering wheel only mutes the player - spotify continues to play in the background. It doesn't pause or stop the song.
Wondered why my data was being run down

As far as I know, it's not just Spotify; it's all media. The button on the steering wheel and on the console are "mute" buttons, not "pause" buttons. That is a very odd miscue IMHO.

Probably because if you're listening to AM or FM radio, you can't pause, so they kept the behavior consistent. But yes, it would be nice to do the right thing for the type of media you're listening to...

I had the same with my data. I noticed earlier that Spotify didn’t stop, but I think this also is the case with YouTube. Even if the car is closed I guess, because for the rest of the month there are no data left. I removed YouTube and Vivaldi, going to use my phone.

Thanks for the insight - I've also deleted the spotify app and will use carplay, at least if it keeps playing, I know to turn it off on the phone.

If you're playing something on CarPlay, at least it will pause or start playing directly on the phone when you exit the car. But if you forget and "mute" an app on CarPlay during a drive, it will keep going silently. Most of us in the US don't have data limits these days, but it's really annoying e.g. if you're playing a book on Audible and you find out later that you are 3 chapters past the last part you listened to. Ask me how I know.

I didn’t remove the Spotify app, only YouTube and Vivaldi. Pausing Spotify on the PCM, instead of the steering wheel, works.

You mean on the screen or the central volume physical button?

no, it's not the case with youtube. If you're not actively watching the video, if it's not on the screen, it's not playing.
and I know this because when i return to the YT, it continues right where i left off in the video. it hasn't progressed at all.

No, I mean the central screen. Spotify has a play and a pause ‘button’ (I don’t know the exact name in English). Not the physical button.

how do you know? where can you even check our data allocation?

In the My Porsche app. I can see at any moment how much data is left. Now it’s all gone and I have to wait till March 1 for the monthly 5 GB.

I'm also having problems with data disappearing. I just called Vodafone to ask them if they can see what caused my data to be used so quickly. They said they cannot see that. I also asked if I could use my 40gb data allowance from my Vodafone mobile phone plan in the car. Answer: not possible. It turns out that this free data allowance by Porsche is a mockery. Why doesn't Porsche allow us to put in our own sim in the car?
