This will allow Plug & Charge but the free year of charging is with EA, that’s it.
not sure how it allows "plug&charge" - charge point chargers will not release the charging cord until you've activated a session…the cords are "locked" to the charging stall until you've "activated" the station where you're parked - the only way to do that is via the Chargepoint app or an RFID card or waving your phone in front of the RFID reader…

there is a chicken & egg problem here…

ChargePoint now appearing in Charging Service. Not exactly sure what it means. Can we now use non EA chargers with Porsche’s one year complimentary subscription? Not really sure…

Update…
Hmmm, it is likely related to this: https://newsroom.porsche.com/en_US/..._chargepoint_into_charging_service-36491.html
Has someone tried it? Is it Plug & Charge? Is it free during the complimentary period?
moved to it's own thread - response is now a FAQ!

at my work we have CP lvl 1 chargers that are locked but we also have CP dc fast chargers that aren’t locked… I wonder if those would work with plug and charge 🤔

I've confirmed _NO_ - there is no standard for Porsche to adopt that supported Plug&Charge for multiple separate charging networks - right now we are all limited to EA for North America - EVGo supports plug&charge via vehicle ID using the embedded "mac address" provided as part of the CCS1 network - but VW/Audi/Porsche vehicles's all provided a fixed/identical MAC address in their implementation so EVGo can't tell one car from another via their method…

industry standards lack a common, well documented, and secure method to support this - so for now - EA is all you get!

and besides if I was going to focus on Plug&Charge support for a non-EA network - North American Tesla Supercharger network would be a higher priority in my book…there are more of them and they are generally faster than the 72 kW FastDC Chargepoint stations (I know ChargePoint has faster ones, but their biggest installed base >80% are the slower 72 kW shared load stations).

ok I set this up and charged @ ChargePoint

Question: what does setting this up accomplish?
Answer: you can now use the Porsche app to start your chargepoint session rather than having to have a separate account w/ChargePoint - it will bill via your existing Porsche charging contract

Question: Does this allow me to use Plug&Charge w/ChargePoint chargers
Answer: No - the current Plug&charge implementation embedded in your Macan only supports EA in North America and can not support "multiple" charging networks
Answer #2: it wouldn't work anyways because ChargePoint cables are "locked" to the charging stall until they are released by activating a session - so you can't plug in until you've accomplished session activation - chicken meet egg!

Question: Was it easy to setup?
Asnwer: pretty easy - there is a "setup" process for ChargePoint account, but it's not a "real" charge point account - just a confirmation of billing/address information associated with you Porsche Account.

Question: is this an actual advantage?
Answer: maybe but for me personaly no - I already have a charge point account, and I can use the following methods to activate a session:
  • ChargePoint app
  • RFID charge point card
  • my phone w/ChargePoint card in my digital Wallet
  • my watch w/ChargePoint card in my digital Wallet
  • Plugshare via account integration
  • and now my Porsche App
Question: is the Porsche ChargePoint account associated with your existing ChargePoint account?
Answer: no - it appears just to "add" charge Point as an option to your North American Porsche charging services contract - there is no "binding/access" to any existing ChargePoint account

Questions: is there any advantage to using the Porsche app to activate your charging session?
Answer: from a pure cost point of view - no - the session I activated was identical cost to what I would've paid per-kWh vs. using the chargepoint app directly.

Summary: this is a "minor" win in my opinion in that you can now use the Porsche app to activate charging sessions for EA and Chargepoint- and have to have only one billing association for both networks - no separate account-name/password and common process for charging your Macan…
  • Launch the "myPorsch app"
  • tap "maps"
  • tap "charging"
  • find the charging station you're at
  • click a few times on the screen and boom the cord is unlocked and you plug in to charge now that the session is activated
if you do not want a separate EA and ChargePoint account and just want to have all your charging for these two networks billed to your Porsche Charging Service contract - this is the setup for you…

I rate this a "minor" win, but honestly managing the chargePoint accounts separately is no big deal, activation via RFID is faster, easier than having to use Porsche app (I can use my phone or watch). And the Porsche app's "number of steps" for activating the session is far greater than the number of steps vs…
  • using the native chargepoint app
  • by passing the app all together and just using one of my connected devices
Kudos to Porsche for doing this - but it's honestly a minor win and not a game changer - it's slightly easier if you don't want to manage two separate billing accounts and like using the Porsche app as your charge session manager.

my $0.02 YMMV
Thank you so much for a thorough explanation. Your contribution to this forum is priceless!

With the ChargePoint app added to the iPhone wallet, starting a session is so, so simple with a single tap.

My ChargePoint account also tracks my home charger usage too, so I lose that using the Porsche integration.

To me, Plug & Charge means that once you connect the gun to the car, it starts charging and you’re billed automatically at the end.

My understanding here is that, while you need to “authorize/initiate” the session on the app to unlock the gun, then there’s nothing to do: grab the gun, plug it, unplug it at the end, leave. Just like EA. No?

no for EA you jsut grab the handle and plug in - no app required or extra steps - the session activates when you plug in the connector - no steps/swipes required.

That I got, that’s not what I wrote. ;)
But all good, I understand how CP works with the Porsche app now.
