My understanding of NMC811 battery chemistry is that the optimal charging temperature is around the low-30degCs. That is also what is indicated on the gauge. This has to do with longevity of the battery.

Ideal battery temperature? - EVcreate

In a recent Out of Spec podcast, apparently the arrow icon representing the car on the built-in nav system changes color when the Macan is preconditioning. There is no manual option to precondition and it seems to only precondition when you use the in-built nav system with the in-built charge planner.

That's interesting, thanks.

Regarding the automatic pre-conditioning. My experience with my two first gen Taycans is that if you navigate to a charger directly, it won't pre-condition. You have to be navigating to somehere other than a charger, and the charger has to be a charging stop initiated by the charging planner for it to pre-condition. Do you know if this is still the case?

It doesn't make any sense why they would make it operate like that. My i5 pre-conditions even if your destination is a charger, and you also can activate manual pre-conditioning.

I hope this is NOT the case - what if you choose a specific charger based on cost/nearby facilities and it wonā€™t PC as the car didnā€™t choose it for you.

Yep, it's a pain. This is why I'm curious to find out if they've changed it for the Macan. A workaround is to choose a location next to your preferred charge point in the hope it suggests a charge near there, but even then that's no guarantee. Sometimes the EV charger it selects to charge at makes no sense.

Taycan works as expected now. If you use charger screen to locate it and then set it as destination, battery preheats.
