I tried to sell the mach e to my wife... But she thought it was ugly for some reason

Amusingly, and to my benefit, I looked at the Mach E when I was searching for my previous electric car to the Macan. My husband (and chief purchase decision maker, as we put both of our cars through his business) thought the same as your wife so I ended up with £20k larger budget and an Audi e-tron Sportback Launch Edition. Woo hoo! Two and a half years of happy driving later - I picked up the Macan Turbo, and I've got to say my opinions are mixed. Love the speed, do not love the gadgets like Innodrive and auto parking not working on the Macan when they are such expensive options. So the jury is out but I'll 80% at present be going back to Audi in 2.5 years time.

The UK market has had an issue with the traffic sign recognition not working safely when using the cruise control. I had a software update last Thursday (finally after 6 months of owning the car) which had improved it, but within an hour of me leaving the dealership the car was already telling me I was in an 80mph speed zone on the motorway (the UK legal limit is 70mph), then down to 50mph for no apparent reason after that. So it’s not usable really unless you want to constantly be manually changing the speed, which completely defeats the object of having intelligent cruise control.

The auto park also has a mind of its own so it unusable, and it’s far easier just to park it myself.

There are other threads about both of those issues on this forum, so I know it’s not just me being ‘special’ lol

yeah, personally i keep that off. no one actually drives at the speed limit...

i don't understand what people manage to get worked up about! who wants to adjust the speed exactly to the legal speed limits? is that an english thing?

I use ACC and InnoDrive almost every day, but I set the speed I want to travel at manually.

The speed limits aren't strictly enforced on our highways, so virtually everyone goes at least ten miles faster than the posted speed limit. Going with the flow of the traffic is the key to getting where you're going quickly and without getting a speeding ticket.

I understand that doesn't work when there are dumb machines on the side of the highway/motorway that snap your picture and send you a nice greeting through the mail.

It is when you’re on the motorway, as we have a lot of ‘variable speed limits’ which change regularly throughout the day depending on traffic flow, accompanied by a lot of speed cameras. So if you only set the speed to 70mph you could easily drive through a 60/50/40 mph zone and have anything from a fine to losing your licence if it was one of the bigger variances or you did it regularly.

It’s not so much that I’m worked up about it, but surely when you pay over £1000 for an additional function on your car you a) expect it to work from a monetary cost point t of view and b) presumably, want to use that function because it assists your driving - otherwise why would you have added it to the spec in the first place? I may own a Porsche but that doesn’t mean I have money to throw away on things that don’t work/could lead to legal consequences or road accidents.

You can’t rely on automated features being 100% accurate at all times. Speed limit recognition could fail because the view of the sign is blocked by a truck/lorry for instance.

There is still value in having ACC even if you wind up adjusting the desired speed yourself. It guarantees that you won’t exceed the speed you set while also avoiding to rear-end a slower vehicle.
