Confirmed: 3.5% Tariff on all new Porsche products through the end of 2025.

My local dealership GM said he took part in a national zoom call with Porsche and all US dealers have now been informed that all Porsche cars going forward will be assessed a 3.5% tariff.

I have a $111,000 Macan 4s SGNeo with Burmeister and quite a few options - which is due at the dealership late August. I told them very specifically when I ordered I wouldn't pay a nickel towards tariffs and today the rubber hit the road...

...I released the car officially and won't be buying it. The car isn't worth $111k, but it's DEFINITELY not worth $115k.

I visited my dealer just now asking about tariffs and they let me know that tariffs are paid by PCNA with no delays in getting them out of the local port (Baltimore for us). I was surprised to see a large delivery batch that they just had as in to say, deliveries are happening, and customer does not pay the tariff at this time.

Did they indicate when this goes into effect? Is it for all July deliveries forward?

No and I didn't ask specifically when it began but I would assume July 1 because Porsche was eating the tariffs "until June 30" last time I heard.

Here’s to hoping that’s the case. My order appears to be on track to arrive at the dealership by mid July with delivery shortly thereafter. Its arrival at the port should be within the next few days; in advance of July 9.

I’m hoping it comes after Trump’s 7/9 deadline (if it has to come at all - this is ridiculous). Mine arrives at the port before then (maybe today). Like you, I’m not sure I’ll be willing to take the hit.

We are buying cars that cost $100,000 -we can all afford it. For me it's taking a stand against bad fiscal policy and not adding that extra $4000 towards the current administration "win tally".

Keep in mind that price negotiation is often on the table too, if your dealer will deal. I bought from lot inventory last month and negotiated the $98k+ MSRP down to $92k. Edmunds pegged the fair price at just over $91k but I was happy to get that close given the tariff uncertainty. I printed the Edmunds sheet with the exact specs/price of the lot vehicle we wanted, and showed it to them after they first said MSRP. Showed them that, they came back with $5k off. I countered with $7k and they came back $6k. We accepted that.

Tariffs are undesirable policy from both sides, but it's worth noting that for a long time, the EU has had a 10% tariff on US automobiles while we only applied a 2.5% tariff to theirs. It's been that way for years, before the attempts to balance that this year.

Like Station, it’s a matter of principle, not cost for me.

I order all of my vehicles, and expect to pay list (or close to it) so I can have the exact car I want. I tend to own them a long time (and I’m a little particular if I’m being honest), so this is important to me. Dealers typically give me a nominal discount upon delivery, and I appreciate that.

In this case, if a tariff is assessed to the customer, I have a hard time reconciling paying it for the aforementioned reasons. If the dealer offsets it completely, the decision will be easy and I look forward to having the car. However, if the tariff identified in the OP flows through completely, I’m going to have a difficult time acquiescing to the fiscally idiotic, brave new world the current regime has put in place for us.

I want the 4S, I don’t need it.

I already have my car so this doesn’t affect me, but here is my view on this issue…

While I would hate to pay more than the originally agreed upon price, is my happiness worth 3.5% more? If I ordered a Macan it must have been my first choice, so would I settle for something else over the 3.5%? Is the second choice exempt from tariffs or would I also be paying one? All imports are getting hit, leaving few options for a comparable EV.

For most of that I agree. On principle, tariffs should be zero (free trade). But keep in mind that tariffs on auto imports are not new. The US has had a 2.5% tariff on EU auto imports for many years (most people just never knew that's already factored into pricing). And the EU has had 10% tariffs on US imports for years. What's different now is the attempt to balance that, which involves moves and countermoves (ratcheting up the tariff threats) to see who backs down. The goal is balance. Time will tell whether we get there.

I saw a recent report from EU officials that said they're resigned to a likely 10% US tariff long-term to match their EU tariff they place on most imports (including from the US).

That's true, but it's not complete. Those tariffs are partly in response to the US import tariff of 25% on pickups and light duty trucks, which is the largest segment of car sales in the US. That 25% tariff (which has also existed for years) has kept the EU makers out of that market even though it would otherwise be profitable.

For those who would walk away (or already have) because of tariffs, as PrudentOcean asked, “ is my happiness worth 3.5% more?” Couple that with their being nothing else in the same ballpark of what I want…, so yes I would personally proceed forward with my pre-custom-ordered one even with the extra 3.5%.

Nice however we each get to choose based on our priorities, budgets, and our vehicle specific priorities.
