I did. My main concern was that the system would require expensive maintenance. My SA assured me it would not. Time will tell.

In any event, the system seems to be very good. Someone mentioned in another post on this forum that it seems like their car gets dusty quickly. I have not had that experience.

I’m curious to hear about others’ thoughts and experiences with this option.

I got it since I have an infant and figured why not? But I'm not really sure if it helps or not. Hard to really tell in any objective way. I just assume worst case it does nothing different, best case it helps keep the inside air a little cleaner.

The way I compare is when I bring takeout home (or do a little crop dusting after parking before I get out). In my 2020 Acura MDX, the car would sometimes retain some of the odor the food (or I) left behind when I next got in the car. In the Porsche, I can smell nothing of the sort. Likewise, when driving by known stinky places (dumps, fertilizer factories, etc.), I can't smell the outside stink, at least not nearly as much and not nearly as long as I have in other vehicles.

I just attributed that to the god awful overwhelming smell of the new car, but maybe it was the filter.

I do not know about other models but the turbo comes standard with “ Particle/Pollen Filter with Active Carbon Filter: Fine dust filter PM2.5 including anti-allergen coating, predictive air circulation control for tunnels and cyclical fresh air supply.”

The $460 option’s description is “ Air Quality System: Ionizer with particle/pollen sensor (PM2.5) including visualization in the center display and PM2.5 automatic Air-Recirculation. The particle/pollen sensor measures the particulate pollution regarding PM2.5 (particle/pollen with an average size of 2.5μm) in the drawn-in air as well as in the vehicle interior. If a limit value is exceeded the air conditioning switches to air recirculation. Due to the multiple flow through the particle/pollen filter in the air-recirculation mode an effective reduction of the particles and pollens is achieved.”

We did not select the option.

What kind of maintenance did you have in mind?

If you use the ionizer a lot, you're going to replace the cabin filter faster, but otherwise I can't think of any maintenance tasks at all for the sensor or the ionizer.

It works well for me. I use the ionizer only when it’s pretty bad outside. The other day a guy in front of me was with a very old petrol scooter and lots of the smoke came in the cabin. I pressed the air circulation button and it filtered the cabin air in less than a minute. It’s the only time I noticed smell in the cabin. For comparison my old Model 3 used to let most of the pollutants in. Also I drove a Mustang MachE recently and had a similar issue, so I would say it’s worth the money.

Nice. I have the option on mine as well but I actually put my takeout in the Frunk because It believe it to be a separate compartment from the rest of the car so figured i wouldnt smell the food anyhow.

I do have the Air Filtration option. The extra display looks like this. When you enable the Ionizer, the graphic on the right changes to show those dots coming out from the dashboard.

Note the the UX is terrible. The text saying 'Very Low' is above the part of the chart that will light up when it is in fact Very High. I have yet to see anything other than the green part lit up, so I have no idea if it's working!

Seattle now has a regular Smoke Season from forest fires, so this will be a useful feature to have for part of the year.

The text changes based on the detection level...both "very low" (<20ppm) and "low" (<50ppm) are green (good).

It's coded to the EPA AQI scale: Good (<50), Moderate (<100), Unhealthy (<200), Very Unhealthy (<300), Hazardous (<500).

My main gripe is the position of the text implies it's a label for that end of the graph, where it's actually a textual repetition of the state shown by the graph. So it says 'Low', but it's at the 'High' end of the chart.

I have seen over 500 in the Seattle area a few years ago, and I'm hoping I don't see that reading 'Apocalyptic' if it gets there again. Presumably at that level it might be hard to see the screen at all....

It's good to know what each level is though. That will be useful
