I’ve had my Macan 4s for two months now and love it, but….the navigation system is a huge disappointment. The HUD does not always correspond to the map In the display, it suggests turns and u-turns that are simply non-sensical, the Porsche charging route planner suggests ridiculous detours when the battery has more than a hundred miles stored, and its estimates of arrival times are often way off. I’ve surrendered and now use Google Maps in CarPlay and don’t use the route planner. Have others found this and, dare I ask, is there a fix? (I read the horror stores following software updates, so I tread lightly before going there.) Thanks!

It worked well the first 8 months but the Porsche navigation system has become unusable for me. Recently, it wanted me to do two charging stops, the first 4 miles farther than the closest station. It also tried to direct me to every charging station (EA, Charge Point, etc.) along my 25 mile route with 100 miles of range indicated. It no longer shows the number of available chargers at my destination and the battery estimate upon arrival is always around 25% regardless of the SOC. It might be correlation and not causation, but I swear it went bad after getting the big software update.

My understanding was that they: 1) use google maps as a base 2) connect with cloud based algorithms to do the planning.

I suspect they are struggling with the myriads of new chargers (and CPO's) coming on line in the US (maybe in the EU and other parts of the world also). They have also added lots of 'choice' in preferences for charging point operators in the app and the car.. hence all that additional complexity may not be reflecting properly in the algorithms they are using to do planning. When it was limited to EA and CCS only they seemed to do a passable job. Now that they have Tesla and IONNA and others thrown into the mix with new ones coming online all the time, they seem to be having a harder time. Not to mention that they have to process real time information on availability to add to this. I've noticed that the reliability of ABRP has also gone downhill since they have a hard time keeping up also. Not to mention that using Google proper is not terribly reliable either (they seem to miss many stations and not update reliably when they come online).

I have had issues as well since I like to avoid they Applegreen chargers unless I have no other choice but they insist on putting them on my route even when other options are available that are cheaper and just as reachable. There seems no completely reliable solutions here. I do like that they do very quick adjustments as you change/eliminate charging suggestions that come up. I'm not, by any means, suggesting they shouldn't improve but keeping up with 'optimizing' routes these days is not easy.. for anyone. That's both the bad news AND the good news. :)

I started using ABRP with subscription, which has many more options and works well in CarPlay. Someone posted you can start ABRP in CarPlay, and then hit the PCM Navigation icon and your route and charging stations will be there. I haven’t tried that yet. Tomorrow on my way home I will try it.

When using ABRP I get the turn directions in the HUD and the ETA in the dash next to the current. I lose all the animation and lane graphics in the AR HUD. ABRP did connect well through Enode and had an accurate current SoC and a good estimate of SoC at the destination. I will go back to using ABPR to plan trips and the PCM navigation while on the road.

Thank you for that information. I’ve downloaded the app!
