How do I set up getting the free charging with my Macan? Macan isn't listed in the EA list of Porsche models on the EA App?
Try using the myPorsche app, I use that to connect to the EA chargers. I have the plug & charge enabled as well.

used to be 3 years for Porsche Taycan - but honestly doesn't matter cause EA doesn't really work all that often so you won't be using it anyways unless you want to spiral into frustration attempting to use the worse charging network on the planet.
maaaan, i got a EA station like 5 minutes from my house.... it will be used! I don't plan to use my home charger for that first year at least

On our last road trip all EA 150 and 350 kw chargers worked perfectly — so much so that each way we eliminated a planned charging stop. Most were newer installed stations but not all.

Has anyone actually got it to charge at 350kW? I just did a roatrip yesterday with two EA fast charging stops and the highest charging I saw was probably around 250kW, but most of the time somewhere around 175kW. These were empty stations as well where I was the only car, so no power splitting going on.

The maximum input for all Macan EVs is 270k. Even if the charger wants to throw 350k, the car will only receive 270k. As per the Porsche site…

The Audi Q6 E-tron charging curve I've seen - with the same PPE platform - holds peak charging rates of over 270kw until a little over 30% charge. After that it drops to just over 200kw for a bit.

So if you're not charging with state-of-charge below about 30% or so, then you won't get the peak listed.

As noted, you will never get 350kw, as that is not supported by this platform

Electrify America Expands Customer Charging Collaboration with Porsche Cars North America to Include the New Macan Electric

Macan Electric owners receive one year of complementary 30-minute sessions with Plug&Charge at over 970 stations nationwide.

Reston, VA (September 25, 2024)
- Electrify America and Porsche Cars North America have announced the extension of their charging agreement, which now includes the all-new Macan Electric. The charging benefit will provide owners of the Macan Electric with one year of complementary 30-minute charging sessions* at Electrify America charging stations coast-to-coast.

The all-new Macan Electric is the latest addition to the Porsche vehicle lineup. Its 800-volt architecture supports a 270-kilowatt (kW) potential charging speed under ideal conditions, making it one of the fastest charging speeds in the industry.

“The Macan Electric is perfectly complemented by our Hyper-Fast charging network delivering speeds of up to 350 kW,” said Robert Barrosa, president and CEO of Electrify America. “Beyond the impressive charging speeds, Macan customers will benefit from either the seamless Plug&Charge feature or using the My Porsche app to start charging. With Plug&Charge activated, drivers can simply plug in and start charging, streamlining their charging experience, and saving even more time.”

Porsche Macan Electric owners will have one year from the date of purchase to use the complimentary 30-minute charging sessions. * To activate the charging benefit, owners can enroll during the Porsche Charging Service process. In addition, drivers can use the app or in-vehicle navigation to locate nearby charging stations, verify charger availability, and navigate to the charging stations.

"We are excited to extend our collaboration with Electrify America and offer our customers the convenience of 30-minute charging sessions for the all-new Macan," said Timo Resch, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America. "This charging benefit is a testament to our commitment to providing our customers with the best possible ownership experience and to supporting the growth of electric vehicles in the United States."

Electrify America is the largest open DC fast charging network with over 970 stations and 4,350 chargers in North America. Additionally, it is the first open DC fast-charging network to offer Plug&Charge technology to capable vehicles.

To learn more about the charging process, owners can visit the “What to expect when charging an electric vehicle” page on the Electrify America website.

Does anyone else have to actually call Electirfy America before every charge? We picked up the Macan 4 in mid-November. This is very annoying as it usually takes at least 10 minutes of talking to someone at Electrify America, they have to stop to do research then speak with their supervisor before finally flipping the switch.

EA sucks - it has sucked since 2020 with my Taycan - flaky service, difficult to start charging sessions, slow charging session, and long customer service phone calls are common/expected and completely normal for EA.

it's a terrible charging network and has sucked since the beginning - the ONLY hope for you is to:
  • get plug&charge to work
  • use the EA app to start the session (you will be charged)
  • use the Point-of-Sale system to start the session (you will be charged)
  • use the Porsche app to start your charging session - will be billed to your Porsche Charging service account - which provides 30 min session for no-charge for 1 year - verify with Porsche customer service or your dealer than your Porsche Charging service is setup and active on your porsche account.
  • continue with EA customer support phone calls which will be consistent with regards to your experiences.
your experience is common and expected. And there is no data/evidence to suggest it's going to change any time soon.

I'm looking forward to being able to use the Tesla Supercharger network which has much better reputation and reliability.

here is a link from sept. of 2020 - you find a lot of common ground and note the lack of progress in almost 5 years…there are a LOT of threads the Taycan forums discussing EA's failed efforts to be a charging network - but this is a good representation of the long standing problems in this space…

I went over the 30 minute session today, 1 minute past and the charge was .33 cents. I checked my app and there is no charge on the history. Has anyone gone extensively over the 30 minutes and been charged?

yes you will be charged…I have been charged

but…

EA charges by the kWh - not time…
car should be at 80-90% SOC regardless of where you pulled in
therefore you should only be charged for the kWh's EA actually delivers past the 30 minute mark
let's say you're at 80% @ 30 minutes
Macan has 95 kWh usable
20% remaining of 95 kWh is 19 kWh - call it 20
@ $0.44/kWh * 20 kWh =$8.80

max charge would be like $10 because that's all the kWh's you should have left in the battery - and that will take an hour to get the remaining 20%…

Once I got it working (dealer helped), free EA charging is now true plug and charge. Zero issues, so easy.

no. pretty sure mine ends after 30 or before. Like my last charge, i had it targeted at 85%, and the session ended at 29 mins with me only at 76% iirc

i've only been charge for idling so far, as i outlined in my first charging post

A note that's mentioned elsewhere but probably belongs here, too. The new single cord 350kw charging stations Electrify America has been rolling out absolutely seem more reliable. I've yet to have a single issue on one and they generally seem to be working.

Like others, I've had MASSIVE issues with Electrify America dating back to 2021 but I'm hopeful these new chargers are a step forward.
