FitcamX dashcam. Anybody installed one?

hard to believe that the smallest problem with anything porsche is said to have done or not done is always widely discussed. but the fact that apparently hundreds of people buy after market dashcams and not a single one of these companies delivers a plug & play camera for the porsche pre-wiring after a year, not to mention a useful manual on how to connect the products without pre-wiring, apparently doesn't bother anyone....

I guess I wasted money on the pre-wired dashcam but I'm glad I didn't waste more buying the camera or dealer install! after seeing the reverse cam, I wont buy another Porsche camera anytime soon.

From memory (it's been a while since I looked at the fitcamx), if you want the rear camera as well you still need to run a cable between the two.

I wonder how difficult it would be to figure out the necessary connections in Porsche's 'prep for dashcam' cabling. That way you 'd only need to remove a minimum number of panels in the rear to link in to it. It would require a custom harness of course, but it shouldn't be that complicated.

It's a short run from the porsche cabling (3) to the rear dashcam position (1).

Have any of you guys experienced the fitcamX actually stopping recording on its own?

This morning I decided to check out some footage for the first time in months. I disconnected phone/carplay and then when I tried to look join via the camera wifi it didn’t pop up which I thought was weird. So I checked the camera and the lights were on indicating everything was fine. So I turned off the cam and then back on and the wifi finally popped up. When I connected I was surprised to find the last footage recorded was two months ago indicating to me that the camera has not been working since then. That’s a bit concerning to me since I’m relying on this being “always on”

Anybody experienced this?

Full warranty doesn't mean that it won't stop working, just that you might get it fixed if it does.
I occasionally pop out the microsd card from mine (FitcamX) in the Audi and look at it. So far, it hasn't failed.
I installed one in my wife's Volvo today, and it was a breeze. The Audio was a one-hour ordeal because of how the plastic and wiring is set up. Then I looked at the instructions video for the Macan and saw it's similar to what I had to do for the Audi, and I think I'll just call a car stereo installer. $250 for install, $180 for the camera, and I'll still be >$1000 below what Porsche would charge for a worse camera ...

Can you please share if you had to do anything special to view the files on a computer? I vaguely remember reading on Reddit that fitcamx encodes their files in a certain format that requires their app to view the files but could be wrong

ok.. but what exactly makes the porsche cam „worse“?
mine did cost 340,- my porsche center installed it for free…

Time consuming indeed, it took me 3 attempts with help on the 3rd attempt and hours before we sorted it out. Looks like ours is the newer version and fits perfectly on one side... but not the other; see pics. Maybe it's an installation issue, but we are a lot more amenable after 3-4 hrs of working at it... hah

I also went through a time consuming process. As as I know, everybody who has one of these installed received a version of the camera that looked like the following:

However, I was sent an "updated" version that I actually think looks better and even more OEM (less vents, etc)

As you can tell from the install, I couldn't get it to fit right nor did a professional installer that i ended up calling. Eventually the "older" version was sent to me and it popped in in under 5 mins. Customer service was actually quite good and responsive. Overall, I'm still very pleased with the camera.

@macanchan which version did you get? For clarity I was told both version was Model A so this wasn't an instance of selecting the wrong type (at least that's what i was told)

I just tried the installation and the connectors don't match! The car has a 8-pin connector while the camera has a 3 pin. Did any of you had this issue? I have written to support, waiting to hear back.

No issues with mine. I was sent two cameras and both fit with rain sensors but didn’t check to see how many pins. Sorry

Did not encounter the same issue, but also didn't check the number of pins. It's quite a loose connection though

I think you're looking at the wrong connector from the ceiling? Isn't there another one there?

I recently installed mine -- or, rather, I had an installer do it, because it's too fiddly to get at the wires up in the ceiling. (I did it for the Audi GT which had a very similar setup, that took forever; I also did it for my wife's Volvo XC90, and that was easy peasy.)
