How do I know my rear wheel steering is working?

My guess is it would have stayed in the lane, emergency braked and flashed a “Risk of collision“ warning when the semi got into your lane. I’ve experienced it doing that when a slower moving vehicle merged into my lane just ahead of me.

yeah, it's often overlooked, but the rear steering also works at speed for increased stability...it's not just for U-turns or tight spaces...

Agree. It works in the reverse direction (same direction as front wheels) at high speeds and is the mathematic equivalent of a longer wheelbase (more stability).
