Macan 4S EV, coming from a Tesla Model Y: Thoughts?

In the last 5 years I owned 3 teslas. M3P, MYP and lastly an S plaid. I had several quality issues with all of them. The plaid was so sh**y assembled that I needed to file a lawsuit against Tesla to take it back.

Yes, the plaid was absolutely mindblowing in terms of acceleration, but quality wise it is a joke. I switched about two weeks ago to a macan 4S and couldn’t be happier. The macan is a much better car, so much better designed and the quality is outstanding. On the first 5 minutes of my first ride I had the feeling that this is a rock solid car.

Things I noticed and miss in the macan

- cameras are garbage
- no sentry :-(
- UI runs at 30hz and appears a bit laggy
- no iPhone key

the Teslas have the better built-in UI but you don’t use most of the functions on a daily basis and CarPlay in the macan is a 10/10. So it’s not a downgrade at all.

Ah yes, and it feels better to be the Porsche guy rather than the tesla Guy

I had a Tesla for 4 years (M3 and MY) and was concerned about the camera quality of the Macan before I bought the Macan. The 360 degree over head view is just as good as Tesla and that is what I use when parking. You get both back and top views at the same time and while I did notice the back camera is not as good as Tesla it’s good enough for the purpose. Same for side cameras. So while I agree better cameras should be provided I would say they meet the intended functional purpose.

I do miss sentry mode and would like to see them add it.

I have never noticed UI lag and phone key would be nice although at least it is proximity activated so you don’t have to find and use it. But yeah another thing to carry around so there is that

I think all the Porsche Macan EV trim levels have really good performance, engineered to perform well above what the driver will use most of the time.

You are quite right, and very well explained, in your illuminating posts.
I test drove Macan 4, but bought the base RWD model when it was announced later, although my initial order was for Macan 4.
I did not notice even the slightest difference in performance, handling of both, as you say, the driving dynamics are the same across the Macan range. No “lag” in, either. Perhaps if I had driven a Turbo, I would understand what that “lag” is.
We all have personal choices, preferences, but I didn't want a tsunami like neck jerking feeling. My previous i4 eDrive 40 had that neck jerking push if not pressing the foot lightly, even though it has less torque. And wife hated it. The push in Macan is much more linear, and more torque 415 lb-ft compared to 317 lb-ft it was in i4.
I'm, happy for those who like that superfast acceleration in their Turbo or for other reasons they prefer Turbo. In central London where I am, super acceleration is useless for me for daily errands as speed limit is mere 20 mph.
Yesterday on motorway driving, it went from 30-40mph to 70-73mph pretty briskly, better than the i4. Those wanting the base model will not regret it.
