no matter how much we love the brand and feel Porsche is a "mass" manufacturer - I'm reminded with Porsche's quarterly sales, that the volume Porsche operates at is a bad "week" for most other car manufacturers

Porsche is a very very small mass vehicle producer - yes they are big vs you and I - but very very small vs. the "other guys"…

using Porsche's "own" numbers - they apparently sold 3338.756 Macan EV's - perhaps the 0.756 unit Macan EV is the one with all the software problems.

Taycan sales are falling off a cliff (my personal analysis) and my personal narrative is they priced it out of the market and the sales numbers reflect that - the 2025 J1.2 Taycan is a _FANTASTIC_ product and a world class automobile that is too expensive for the market - Taycan sales are entirely self inflicted problem given porsche's pricing for the model, options, trim.

I loved my 2020 Taycan Turbo and was considering a Taycan CT/ST GTS J1.2 - until I optioned it out and priced it - and which point I started considering the Macan Turbo EV…and so far I'm happy with my decision.

Love the Taycan as a product!!! Honestly it's the best sports sedan on the market - period - full stop. But it's just way way too expensive.

It’s just a matter of opinion. Some would argue that any ICE Macans selling is bad and indicates a good number of people don’t want EVs. Remember that Porsche originally wanted to retire the ICE Macan.

There can be many reasons for people choosing ICE though. They are more readily available and less expensive. Nearly half of people opting for the EV though is a good sign, and it’s nice to have choice.

I've talked with local dealers in Bay Area (there are at least 4 Porsche dealers with in 100 miles of me)

reasons for ICE Macan Purchases (not sorted)
  • hate EV's
  • get 'em while you can
  • not ready for EV/never consider one
  • price
  • not suitable (apartment living, unclear charging story)
  • didn't know an EV was an option - maybe next one - but I've had this one on order for "N" months…
apparently however in North America there is a great divide (big surprise yeah tell me) but it's easier to sell a Macan EV west of the Rockies than east - a very very interesting break down would be Macan sales (EV vs. ICE) geographically…my dealer locally is "importing" Macan EV's from mid-west/east-coast dealers and "exporting" ICE Macan's to them in straight "swaps"

I'd be willing to bet 70% of the Macan EV sales are to california all by itself…but I have NO data regarding that - but I'd be unsurprised.

Western Porsche dealers can't keep Macan EV's on the lot, and Mid-west/Eastern Prosche dealers can't sell a Macan Ev to save their lives…

I feel 44% uptake on total sales for a 1st gen new drive train model is actually _EXCELLENT_ and very very successful - but what do I know? YMMV>

Yeah I always find it interesting in Utah that they overwhelmingly belong to a demographic that should be skeptical of EVs, yet the roads are full of them. I will pass several Rivians and Cybertrucks during a ten minute grocery trip. Many stop lights look like a Tesla parking lot, not unlike the Bay Area.

also I've taken my Macan EV to some PCA car's and coffee - and the PCA crowd is not pleasant or welcoming - I get a lot of EV "hate" and all tell me it's a failed product and apparently (unbeknownst to me) my Macan EV has already depreciated to $0 value because yeah:
  • they are not selling
  • no one wants them
  • they suck
  • they cause cancer
  • they cause war
  • they cause pestilence
  • maybe they cause locusts
  • do not function as a vehicle and can't drive anywhere
  • I'm the _ONLY_ customer - cause no one else is as stupid as I am to buy one…
I get a LOT of misinformed "hate" on my Macan EV from other Porsche owners - when I in fact feel it's way way way better than people give it credit…

to say it's being asked to be perform in a challenging environment is an understatement.

Yeah, as it is missing 0.244 of all components! Maybe a supply shortage during the automated production? ;)

The used ones crash in values after a year or two. So, perhaps the best way to own one.

That would be an interesting pole, which state or country did you purchase your Macan,

When I purchased my Macan EV, my wife drove the ICE version and liked it so much we ordered one (at the German port now - Tariffs?). She will be trading in her Lexus.
I’m not ready to be all EV yet because we drive from Florida to Texas sometimes, and the extra charging time does start to add up.

Just an anecdote, I once drove an X3 from Salt Lake City to San Jose, then drove an e-tron back. About 800 miles. The e-tron added 38 minutes to an 11 hour drive. Stops were about the same length but had one additional stop - and that was with an net elevation gain of 4500ft.

People of course should do what they’re comfortable doing. EVs are totally capable of road tripping but still less convenient, need to plan ahead a bit.
