I don't doubt the veracity of this news/rumor, but allow me to be agnostic.

To focus on data relating to my country. It's not an exact representation of global sales, but it's what I have on hand...

- In 2022, 1,322 Macan ICE units were sold.
- In 2023, 1,115 Macan ICE units were sold.
- From September 2024 to June 2025, 1,023 Macan EV units were sold, so it's likely that in a full year, it will surpass ICE sales.
- So far this year (6 months), as many electric vehicles of all brands have been sold in Spain as in all of 2024.

I wonder:
- if this trend continues, how many people will still prefer an ICE vehicle in 2028? I'm talking about the market the Macan is targeting, not the 911 or similar.
- Really, given current Macan EV sales, would Porsche expect to double the historical sales for this model simply by adding an ICE to the catalog? Will it be possible to recoup the investment?

I'm going to make some popcorn while I wait for 2028...

...In addition to what described above let's not forget that by that same year,2028,new battery tech will have already emerged and adapted at least to premium cars like Porsche. Most likely next gen Macan EV will be equipped with such batteries offering significantly greater range and reduced charging times. With such a Macan EV in the markets I would be very curious to see how many will still be interested in such a technologycaly anachronistic ICE Macan.I also wonder, how is it possible Porsche hasn't already thinking about all of that?

honestly i can see this happening. As not all countries have regulation on ICE emissions...so Porsche will continue to see ICE vehicles in those countries...Like the U.S.

So if they're continuing to make the ICE for some regions, if they can simply get the emissions issue stopped them selling in EU from the beginning...why not start selling it again.

I wonder whether Porsche will stick to their typical five year re-fresh or major-new strategy with the Macan EV? Or maybe slow it down a little bit. I am getting a 2027 which I expect (hope for) two major changes, the Mac’s port and the GTS version. And maybe a new color or similar small change.

I will do another 2 year lease on it, then hopefully would be able to get a 2029 or 2030 J1.2 Macan EV version.

This isn't the reason they can't sell current Macan ICE cars in Europe. The problem is new cybersecurity regulations for both production facilities, and the cars being built.

Upgrading the existing systems was too costly, if you assume that the EV Macan would be able to replace most of those sales.

There are certainly emissions requirements that also helped tilt the scales towards electrification.
