Hi, my Macan 4S has automatically tensioning seat belts that tighten the seat belts at around 16 mph, the issue that I have is that they immediately release the tension after the initial tensioning has occurred ?

My Cayenne had the same feature, but once the tension was taken up on the belts it maintained the tension, so I am thinking that there may be a fault, has anyone else experienced this ?

no, i don't think they're supposed to keep that tension, and they don't need to.
no car i've been in keeps that tension. i think its just designed to get any slack out of the seatbelt, not make it tight on theoccupant

i think this is working as designed

They got to release tension after tightening, otherwise the tightness would be too uncomfortable.
As @krissrock correctly mentions, it's done just to get any slack out of the seatbelt.

Just to add to the purpose - the pretensioner tightens to remove the slack as mentioned above, but thatā€™s also recoded as the measure of the ā€˜sizeā€™ of the driver. In the event of a collision it tightens to that measure, to restrict movement and potential injury, but then also knows to release the tension after the incident has occurred. Old style seatbelt tensioners would remain in the locked position after an incident, causing undue stress and tension on the individual in the seat. Clever stuff this modern day tech :) So whatever you do when it initially tightens - donā€™t lean forward into it or pull the belt away, as it would be vital for you that initial measure is an accurate reflection of your body should you end up on a collision. May that never be the case x
