Hello everyone. Coming from a disastrous experience with a Taycan Sport Tursimo in which the 22KW on-board charger failed twice, resulting in a tow truck recovery and almost 2 months in the workshop, the time has come to say enough. I love this car but living with it terrifies me. I am negotiating with the dealership about buying it back or exchanging it for a used Macan 4 Electric of theirs that they use as a courtesy car. The car is beautiful, I like it, but I don't want to make, as they say, a bigger mistake. I have read about the problems with this car, as of July 2026, is it that terrible and unreliable? Ok, it is a newer product, but I was hoping it would be better than the first generation Taycan. Am I making a mistake? Many thanks to anyone who can help me make a decision.

If it is a courtesy car, it means it gets used most of the time, and they would have sorted out any niggles.
And it has an 11 kW AC charger that doesn't have such issues.
Mine, like many, has been trouble-free since purchase in Nov 2024, except for one issue: it misreads auto speed limits. So, I turned it off. But I think this problem is mainly UK-specific.
So, go for it.

2023 Taycan owner adding a 2026 Macan EV.
Zero issues with Taycan but I did not get the 22kW option as it was expensive and unnecessary.
Taycan forum is full of 22kW option failures with the best route to replace it with the standard 11kW and get compensation for it from corporate with someone going through this right now.
I was hoping all issues would clear up by the 2026 model but that does not seem to be the case, so I will be sure to share any issues with the forum when I get it, which would be late August.

The newest update 28.13 SQ5 seems to resolve most of early stage issues but I would assume Taycan J1.2 should me more reliable compared to first gen Macan.

I wouldn't buy a used one without looking deep into service history.

I have two 2024 Macan 4 with which I occasionally still have a few minor issues, but these resolve after turning the vehicle off, and they are exceedingly rare. Nothing of any note now. The 2024 software had more bugs, but I rate these vehicle as reliable after the last update. Overall, I would buy again based on this past experience.

There are a number of really bad stories, but the majority of owners, seemingly a pretty high percentage, have a vehicle that has been a positive experience.

You could ask to take the Macan for a week before deciding on the trade. Seems like a reasonable request.

If the only issue you had with your J1.1 Taycan was the 22kW OBC I guarantee you will have a lot more problems with the Macan, Taycan is a class above and downgrading to the Macan in hopes for peace of mind is the wrong thing to do. Macan looks a lot worse, handles a lot worse, is slower and does not offer any more leg room, the only benefit it has over the Taycan is increased ground clearance. If you stick to asphalt replace the 22kW OBC for a 11KW and enjoy the looks/drive/premium quality of the Taycan.

There are some Macans which are total lemons, no doubt about that either, but don't know how to avoid them!
I think you are very courageous to buy a new Porsche EV after being so unlucky with your first Porsche EV.
For instance, on this forum, 30% of the Macans seem to have the 1% loss of SoC per day for almost one year. The latest (non OTA as always) campaign seems to resolve that: it took one year for Porsche to find a solution (hopefuly)... Is that acceptable from your pov?
For instance, my specific car is at the dealership since may, after 15 weeks of previous unavailability for a dangerous issue... it's maybe a rare issue, but nonetheless a very real one.

The question you must answer: if (if !) your future macan is one of the problematic ones, would you accept that with a smile (bad luck, again 😊), or would you think "I was aware of a non negligible probability of a problem, why the hell did I purchase another EV from Porsche?"

You have some Macan's owners that had a bunch of problems, even one member(can't remember the pseudo) with two (!) successive lemons, and in the end, they've replaced their Macans EV with the new Cayenne EV.
So you see, it's a very personal decision.

I've had my 4S for over a month so far with no issues. But as others have noted there seems to be some luck involved.

As with anything on the internet, you'll find that forum posters often amplify both pros and (especially) cons, there will be plenty of other people not on the forums happily driving their cars.
