down hill into Albuquerque - consumption has dropped from 50'ish kwh/100 mlies to less than 40 - and is still dropping…

wow - we hauled a 5000 lbs SUV up to 7000 feet at well over 75 mph over 900 miles in less than day…perhaps this is not as bad as it looks…

5800 ft now…but 22 F temp…

what we're doing here is point a to b - and never retracing our steps…it's very very unlikely my car will ever go back to Atlanta on Hwy 40…possible, but highly unlikely.
Not on the same charge it won't (which would help offset any elevation changes).

yeah we're comparing a 900 mile epic road trip day - to one full battery segment that null's out all the variables - because you get to do that in real life!!

@daveo4EV , is the Macan using full regen when using the brakes, or does it require some break-in period like some Taycans did (as documented in the Taycan User Manual, reported by some owners, though not all, mine was fully regenerating when I picked it up with <50miles on the odometer).

we're full regen - and have been for a while based on visual inspection of the power meter…

charging now in Albuquerque - 10 stall EA site!! - woot - 2 350 kW stalls - one 350 kW stall "power reduced" according to EA app - the sole remaining 350 kW stall is occupied by Taycan CT and has been for a while - I think the idle fee's are going to be epic - 2 other stalls of the 10 are also "power reduced" - I'm sitting at one stall which is 150 kW rated - and I got my normal 175 kW to start - and we're now down to 73 @ 83% battery soc - outside is 43 F - battery is 116 F - tomorrow we're heading west - and the first two EA sites have some interesting "check ins" lots of complaints - so we have to tread carefully…

but once you're past the first two EA sites with enough charge to get to the next batch of chargers - it looks to get better!!

we'll see how this goes - bed tgime for me soon

trip computer for today!! I never do more than 600 miles in a typical road trip day - so yeah - this doesn't happen often - but the Macan did it!!

OMG - it's a 'ucking gorgeous day!!!

we're on the road to Grand Canyon - this is why we did the big day yesterday so we could arrive at Grand Canyon before sunset today - fingers crossed 🤞

we have two iffy EA sites between us and the Grand Canyon (based on plugshare comments) - one/both of those sites MUST give us electrons otherwise we can not complete this segement…

Winslow, AZ is an oasis of charging - and once we're there charging is no big deal…

the trick is getting to winslow…given the sparse and low reliability charging options on this segment…

winslow, AZ is 268 miles from our hotel - it would be no problem to get there is you could actually drsive the Macan EV that distance in these conditions (skipping the "iffy" charging sites)…but alas no we're not doing that.

did I mention it is a gorgeous day and I love the Arizona landscape!!

Too bad you didn't pack a GoPro or something. Would've made an interesting YouTube video and kick'd off your content creator career.

Hope the day goes smoothly! Super appreciate all the info. 38.6 isn't bad for the overall conditions/speeds/etc. I do wonder if they missed a chance to have an eco or range mode and/or if we see some software updates to improve efficiency. The gulf between the 4 and Turbo seems larger than expected for range, so wonder if the Turbo has some software that can be improved.

As you mention, nice to get this real-world data vs the very controlled loops we see data from.

1st EA stop worked flowless - 150 kW charger - the two 350s were blocked by a Mercedes EQS and the owner felt it was the perfect time to spend 20-30 minutes reorganizing their trunk/frunk but not being plugged in…

OMG

but we have a 16% buffer to Winslow, AZ now - and there are two highly rated 350 kW stations at that location and some slow charging if things go sideways - once we charge in Winslow - it's an easy gig into Grand Canyon!!!

and there are 6 EA 350 kW stations in grand canyon village our day's ultimate destination!!!

Plug&Charge just worked and we're good to go - next stop lunch!

4 USB C outlets - so far enough power to keep an iPad Pro topped off during heavy use - so that's good - charging my iPad and my watch right now…forgot to charge it last night!

I'm happy to report that range today is MUCH better - 33.1 kWh/100 miles - and speeds that really really mean we could even do much better - we left Grants, NM with 16% buffer and now have 27% buffer to Winslow - the range today means this is a different car…I can see 260/270 miles being "easy"

so it must have been the elevation…

I feel much better about the range now - this segment has restored my faith…

33.3 at 78 mph avg is BONKERS!!

Now I'm wondering if there really is a longer break in period. The elevation is one thing but those first stretches were oddly bad.

33.3 is just fantastic at that avg speed. And it's still on the cooler side temperature wise, right? 50s?
