the AR HUD is a big big big hit with the two driver's - traveling buddy is considering a Macan EV - and he was "on the fence" about the HUD for his build - and 1 day in - he's moved the HUD to 100% confirmed he will be getting it - he is more conservative than I am for options - so he's a "hard sell" - so trust me this is a BIG endorsement if you knew him.

my friends build is now:
  • 4S/GTS - he doesn't feel the "need" for the Turbo - 4 is a bit "low" HP for him
  • sports sound he was "dubious" - and expeirence w/sports sound - no for him
  • Rear Wheel steering - loves it - but doesn't want to pay for it - so it's a no for him
  • leather interior - big yes
  • passenger screen - loves it - understands it - but he will be alone in the car 95% of the time - and his most likely "passenger" is low tech and won't use it - she will want it turned off if she's in the car
  • HUD - big fat stink'n YES - this is a change in perspective for him
  • trailer hitch - yes
  • roof rails - no
  • power charge port - maybe
  • standard headlights
  • 115 volt outlet - yes
  • innodrive - bit fat stink'n yes - he in particluar now has had innodrive handle curves and laness where is BMW X5 Hybrid would've "failed" in his words
  • massage seat big fat yes…he says this is my fault - but yeah - he's all onboard now
  • thermal/noise glass - maybe
  • air suspension - slam dunk yes - wasn't on the chopping block to begin with - but 100% he's ordering this.
so the big changes are:

HUD has gone from maybe to YES
massage seats have gone from maybe to YES
innodrive has gone from maybe to YES
sports sound when from maybe to NO
confirmation of air suspension being a good thing - he was leaning yes - yes is now certain

our first "hic-up" - Walmart - EA Site - 2 150's - 2 350's - 8.8 rating in plug share - arrive with 8% - need to charge to at least 90% for next segment - and this is an opportunity for the first time to see max charging speed right? well that's great in theory - until you can't get the 2 350 kW to activate - they could not talk to the car!!!! now we're worried - cause this charging station is _IT_ - it has to work for us!!!

we move to the 150 kW stations - and phew station #1 of 4 works - but we're only on 150 kW stations (175 kW actual charging speed right out the gate) - I think I might have been able to activate a charging session with the app - but you'd have to disable plug&charge in the PCM so that it doesn't start P&C when you plug in - which won't work…

and honestly I don't really really want to spend a lot of time "debugging" EA's problems for them…

10 minutes wasted trying to get station to activate! grrrr this makes EVs not ready for prime time fir most types of people!

so we'll call this a near miss - but it was almost a disaster - and we were lucky all the other stalls were empty so we could move stalls to try different locations - fail fail fail!!!

next stop Amarillo!

we're finding the Macan Turbo to be an easy 220 mile vehilcle - 240 if we trust the charging to be 100% reliable at the other end - and able to activate - speeds so far on the highways have been 70+ so I think that's part of it - not really safe/effective to drive 65 mph when everyone around you is doing 75 mph speed or more…

range is disappointing me but it's workable

consumption for today is 37.9 kWh/100 miles - 487.7 miles
lifetime is 38 kWh/100 miles - 942.5 miles

I was really really hoping for a 320 mile EV - based on my first 942.5 miles and HWY 40 and traffic flow speeds - the Macan EV is _NOT_ that.

20" standard wheels - All Season Tires - mild temps - nothing below 50F - mostly 60-70f - clear sky and no weather…no real head winds either.

them's the facts based on my current trip.

Interesting - car says

226 miles of range with no destination input into the navigation
put the next charging stop into navigation @ Amarillo - and it drop's to 197 miles - not enough range to get there...

so we're at 89% battery SOC - and the Macan EV Turbo can not drive on Hwy 40 to make 183 miles - PMC navigation says 0% battery @ arrival at 89%

183 should be easy peasy - but apparently not really.

90 % soc - charge rate 37 kW - battery temp 104F - ambient air temps 67F - them's the facts.

Bummer to see it on the low side. You should be far enough in now to have max efficiency.

I like those wheels, wish I could have specc'd them on my 4S. Also drove a Ruby here and was surprised how much I like the color, your photos are probably the best representation of it that I've seen. Lovely car.
