My Apple CarPlay over Wi-Fi is highly unreliable. I think it has worked twice. I have had to reset an entire car to get it to work once. When I press the CarPlay icon in the devices list next to my phone asks me whether to activate the hotspot, but it seems to fail.

Does anyone else have any similar issues?

I also noticed some discussions around a recent software update. I have not seen any recalls or any OTA messages. My Mac is a 2025 turbo. When was this software update released? I see some people have issues with charging. Should I wait, or is there something I should pursue with the dealership?

For me it was my wireless hotspot settings and my SSID password not being strong enough to comply with some new password strength requirements.

Although slightly seperate Apple CarPlay relies on WiFi and also the Porsche wifi hotshot service to be running behind the scenes.

Do not manually join the hotspot from your iPhone though.

@JonoNZ Thanks for the response. So change the password to something modern and strong but don't join manually.

You mention Wi-Fi hotspot setting. Anything specific other than password?

It just needs to be enabled and it won’t enable without a password strength that it’s happy with.

Same there is an old thread that discussed this … you need to change the wifi hotspot password to be compliant to the new rules.

It's frustrating. I have to constantly reset Car Play in my 2024 Macan 4EV, at least a few times per week. Considering the cost of these cars shouldn't CarPlay be more intuitive and work consistently? C'mon Porsche....

Once set up correctly, given the tips here, most of us by far have zero issues with carplay. Mine has worked flawlessly since set up by the dealer SA a year ago. By the time I hop in the car, tunes are playing and the map is displayed ready to go.

That's great news. Just woke up in Seattle. Excited to go test this.

@JonoNZ You are all brilliant geniuses 🍺🍺

That worked.

Thank you so much for the help. I never would have known to do that.

It's frustrating that you have to go to a forum to ask for help getting CarPlay working. In my daughter’s Kia and my Wife’s Ford Bronco, it just works. On the other hand, in my Rivian it never works 😂😂

Good luck, it worked for me although I believe others have had ongoing problems not related to the hotspot issue.
Dear All.

Jumping in as I finally started having Apple Car Play issues this week. 1st time since delivery 15/Oct/2024.

WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity appeared to work.

Screen on car blank.

Tried the connect a mobile phone.

Showed my iPhone 17 but would not link.

Finally options to designate mobile device as favorite (star symbol) appeared.

In no case would the app appear on the screen.

I opted to connect the device with cable which I do sporadically to charge my iPhone.

Charging worked seamlessly. No ability to see Apple car play on screen. No access to Waze driving app.

Was finally able to make and receive calls and listen to my Apple iTunes music list.

Dealer needed to perform a hard reboot.

Even then it took them 3 tries!

Finally they were able to reset Apple Car Play.

Total dealer time 15-20 mins.

Awesome! Nonetheless, no ability to try any home remedies in my driveway.

Dealership visit was required for me.
