Wow I didn't know you can rent Teslas from these traditional car renting companies now. Was cost similar to renting an ICE car in the same price range ($50k - $60k)?

My Taycan is in the shop so I rented a Model Y from Hertz.

I was genuinely curious about how this would go. Do they have chargers on site?

At this location the answer is NO, surprisingly! Not even level 2 or 1. They shuttle cars back and forth from the nearest Supercharger to keep them charged for customers. They also noted they don't let them leave without at least 80% charge.

I have no idea if I am expected to return it with the same level of charge, or what it will cost if I don't. Since I have charging infrastructure at home I will plug it in so, shouldn't be an issue.

Review of the car: holy crap do I miss my Porsche.

It rides very bouncy, and I absolutely hate the one-pedal-driving (which cannot be disabled.) Lifting off the gas is like hitting the brakes.

On the positive side, the "radio that actually works" feature is PHENOMENAL!
I was listening to music from my phone, parked to go into the bank, came out and got back in and my music resumed where I left off almost immediately. WOW! What technology! I wish Porsche had this feature!
Model 3: 65k
Taycan: 130+k
Thanks God Taycan is much better...
To compare ? to ?

I continue to be amazed at how well balanced the coil suspension is on my '22 RWD. The car is so firm on the ground but bumps do not beat me up. The TMY was crtitized right from the begining for being very bouncy. Suprised they haven't fixed that. Tesla is only interested in "# Deliveries in Qtr" and 'EPA Range rating".

To enable one pedal driving, you'd select Hold, and my dad says he never has to use the brakes with this option. To disable it, you'd choose choose roll.
That is only for low speed. Regen will be active at all times with 2021+

Suspension-wise, you'd have to compare the Model Y to a Macan.
And, while the Macan is better, it's also no Taycan IMHO.

After a day with the thing...
  • Getting used to the one-pedal-driving. It super-offended me at first but it's already starting to feel normal.
  • It's a lot faster than my base Taycan off the line
  • Really appreciating the seamless radio and increasingly bitter about it.
  • Still can't wait to get back into my Taycan.

need to compare the Y to other mid sized SUV's not premium lux sports sedan's

one pedal driving isn't so bad once you get used to it

suspension can be fixed with $5k after market - actually makes it world class

I'll take a Y over most any $55k SUV ICE - just for the EV drive train - spend some time in Q5 or Lexus and get back to me…

also make sure to expolore the cargo capacity - it's world class for it's market segment.

I agree with you, it's not really fair to compare an SUV with a luxury sport sedan.

I'm not an SUV guy in general, ever. Even Macans.

Glad you're enjoying it. I tested a M3P and fell in love with it. Cannot understand the hate. I do hear the Suspension on the Y is quite rough even compared to a 3. Still prefer the Taycan because of course.

Many things about Teslas "just work". It's one of the characteristics that make them so popular.

They're far from perfect, but they're supremely easy to live with.
