I would have done these, got the uglier ones I think, but will be packed with snow and slush anyway so no big deal.

Agreed about the slush. If anything, the other 20 inch (I wouldn't call them ugly ) might be easier to clean.

Yesterday my car came back from the dealer with the new Goodyears. It has helped, the driving pleasure of the Macan has clearly improved. The tires respond better to irregularities in the road surface. They cushion and are simply less hard and stiff.
The sound also seems better, but I have to make longer rides on different types of road surfaces to know for sure.

In short, the Goodyears show that the better scores on the tire labels in the configurator of the Macan correspond to practice. Furthermore, the dealer said that about 90% of the Macans come to them on Bridgestones...

That could very well be the case. In the tests I always saw a whole lot of Michelins and that was really not because the introduction was in France...

I drove a Macan 4 recently that had 21 inch tires, failed to notice the brand. It had an annoying tire type drone ~65-70 mph, singing louder when decelerating/coasting. Tires or something else?

I don't recognize the singing sound at these speeds. Certainly not with my Goodyears, but I don't remember it with the Bridgestones either. It could also be the road surface perhaps?

It is crucial that you find out which type of tire was on the Macan. As you can see at the beginning of the thread, a Continental is louder than other tires. Maybe they were Continentals?

Road surface is what the salesman mentioned, but my mini or jeep doesn't drone like that on that highway. I'm surprised the Macan allowed so much noise through to the body, although it may be I'm hyper sensitive to those frequencies or the Macan/tire combo has a tendency to drone. SUVs with their big box passenger compartment have a tendency to drone. When I swing by to look at a couple colors in the dark, I'll try to check tire type.

Now that I read about rumbling, I have to say that I also heard this sometimes at lower speeds of 50-65 km (30-40 mls) with the Bridgestones. Not at the speed you mention. Perhaps the relative stiffness of the Bridgestones is a cause, it dampens less so that a resonance is more likely to be heard.

I think I'm sensitive to those noises just like you. I had that in my Taycan too, caused by the rear engine. Porsche however said it was "within the margins"

I'm curious what the tires were. If you order a Macan, you may have to change the tires later, just like I did last week. What you get from the factory is a lottery…

Do you mean: “I can’t hear any tire noise in that toy” in stead of “I can hear etc.”?
With Michelins extra road noise shouldn’t be the case. As DOO said above, they were equipped on the test vehicles in media reviews, certainly not because they lack quality.

Perhaps indeed the car… Let’s hope not, because that reminds me of the problems I had with a humming sound in my Taycan at certain speeds.

Try another 4 on this track and you know more. Let the salesman join you. A whole lot of effort but better check now instead of annoyance afterwards.

Perhaps you are sensitive to certain specific sound frequencies. I'm afraid I have that too. Once you notice a certain sound, hum or vibration, you will continue to hear it. Porsche measured the sound frequencies on my Taycan. Then the objective may be within the margins (that conclusion at least saved them from replacing the engine), but subjectively it is different. Human hearing simply differs.

To reassure you for now: I have the same rims with Goodyears and fortunately no problems. Neither with the sound of the car itself (it's really quiet compared to the Taycan), nor with the new tires. I don't hear the noises now that I did hear with the Bridgestones. So it's possible...

The only problem is that the tire choice is made by Porsche almighty. That's why I started this thread.

Thanks. Yeah, I don't hear any singing road surface type noise while driving the Mini or the Jeep on that highway.

It may have something to do with the regen mode, or is it recuperation mode,. I don't know what was set by the SA as he was demonstrating features. It was not the coast mode as I could feel a little slow down when I left off the throttle. I didn't pursue it when he blamed the tires. I'll have to start a new thread on that. And take another test drive someday. Before I went through that trouble I thought I'd check in here on a tire thread for an easy answer.

Beat up some on 21" P-Zeros mounted on off-road wheels on a good paved back road today. Noise wasn't worse than any other ride I have owned running M P-Zeros. Car was fun to flog though and the 14 way massage seats met with spousal approval after her loving the 18 way seat. Still trying to figure out a few things, but pretty good so far.
