you can thank your EU overlords for lack of deactivation - since features like these are mandated for newer vehicle's - you can disable them each start up - but they are required by regulations to be re-enabled when the car is restarted…
OP is in the UK, no EU overlords dictating car features (including which side of the road to drive on, or which seat should have the steering wheel ;)). This must be the local UK regulations.

You are quite right! We followed the EU regulation for no reason!

Or the UK regulators just think the same as EU regulators, or perhaps just using a lazy approach - copy someone else's work and still get paid. I guess EU regulators have not thought to copyright their regulations. We have a state here in the US which copyrights its own laws, so if you want to read them, you have to buy a copy - photocopying the laws there is considered piracy (and illegal). Sadly, "your honor, I didn't know this was illegal because I could not afford to buy a copy of the legal code" is not a viable defense.

Oh, I was. Don't get me wrong, I thought that the advantages of remaining in the EU far outweighed the disadvantages (i was a remainer) and I agree regarding having no say in making EU rules. However, the later issue is only relevant when considering those rules and regulations that apply to cross boarder trade in goods and services plus travel into the EU. EU rules do not apply to wholly domestic UK regulations, such as what we mandate in cars registered here. So we did not have to follow this particular piece of EU over-reach.
I appreciate you're a remainer...

...but, the UK is now a small state on the fringe of a much larger bloc. Even if they could set their own rules, it isn't necessarily going to mean car manufacturers are going to remove certain features. Much simpler for them to supply cars that are as close to EU cars as possible to minimise difference between different markets, even if it means features like mandatory speed warnings are present when regulations don't require them. And do you honestly think the DfT is going to remove safety features that have been mandated in the EU? The "optics" wouldn't be very good.

The reality of global politics/economics is that there are three rule makers in the world, and the rest are rule takers. The three rule makers are The US, EU, and China. The UK chose to leave one of those, and the moment it did, it became a rule taker.

but Porsche sets their vehicle's up to conform to EU regulations - many times they don't bother to make 'exceptions' on a regional basis - so the EU becomes the "defacto" standard even when/where it does not apply…

They make exceptions all the time, check out North American cars, or even US vs. Canadian cars. Some of those are not even just software (e.g. Canadian vs. US seatbelt latches).

That they do. They also sell ICE Macans in the UK and the US, whereas they are not allowed to sell them in the EU.

UK people are european and friends, brexit didn’t change anything in the mind of people.
This is what's important IMO

US people and Canadians are all (North) Americans and friends too, but it doesn't mean they have identical car regulations.
