Until recently, the sequence of design for Porsche EV’s was Macan, then the 983, and then the Cayenne. Then Porsche announced that the next model released would not be the 983, but the Cayenne EV. It would be interesting to hear from Porsche why they made this change, but here’s one possibility: the 983 with traditional NMC lithium batteries is likely too heavy to perform well as a sports car. Yet like the Macan, the Cayenne should be a great SUV with lithium ion batteries, even with the heavy, associated weight. So it’s possible that Porsche will delay the release of the 983 until solid state batteries are ready for production (which likely are destined for luxury vehicles at first). Those batteries potentially will be available in limited quantities as soon as 2027 -2030, if not a bit sooner, if no unsolvable technological issues arise. Those batteries would be much better suited for use in the 983. Just speculation…
