Battery Supplier & Manufacturer Query?

Hi All,

Yet another ‘just wondering’ question (whilst waiting for delivery) - but I had always read that the Battery for the Macan was to be supplied by CATL..

Per the EPA Testing Data results sheet (as posted by @JayGT4 in the EPA Thread), Battery Manufacturer is listed as "DFS Draxlmaier", not CATL (as previously reported/thought)...

Am i missing something? Or is it perhaps a case where CATL provides the battery cells to Draxlmaier for assembly of the final battery assembly?

I even saw an interview between the head of CATL and senior porsche execs talking about how they were supplying the battery for the macan ev.

I sniffed around and draxelmaier created an entire plant in Leipzig to make the macan ev batteries. No mention of Catl, but maybe they are getting the cells from catl?. They have a long history of battery innovation and manufacturing in Germany. I think they also supply the packs for the taycan.

I assume the packs/modules BMS are manufactured by this manufacturer with the prismatic cells coming from CATL.

Honestly it probably seems like the most plausible explanation.

Hard to verify until either the Draxlmeier confirms (unlikely) or more probably a Macan needs requires battery servicing and then we can look at the cell manufacturer label (also hoping that won't be for a while)

Yeah, i guess this is what you get for a global supply chain and the fact that the batteries (cells) themselves are only one cog in the larger 'wheel' of the BMS (Draxlmeier)...

On the Draxlmeier plant in Leipzig, my thoughts were also initially that it was 'exclusive' to Porsche (they seem to be a major customer if not), but i guess it's also a strategic location as BMW also does manufacture in the area as well.

Just a bit of fun 'research' - the main that that counts at the end of the day is that the battery cells/management system are reliable and (relatively) long-lived.
