Beware Costly Bird Strikes

Driving on the motorway this week I had a bird strike on the front nearside active air intake. This all happened very early in the morning. It initially appeared to be OK with just 1 cracked blade/vane. Sad to say I didn't realise how much these AAI's do. Porsche advised not driving the vehicle and it has been taken in for repair. The estimate is in the region of £2k. The front end has to be disassembled and then reassembled and all the cameras and sensors checked and realigned. It will be off the road for at least a week
I have to say this has come as a real shock in relation to my knowledge of the car. Financially I'm hoping that the insurers will look kindly on my claim

i think you have been lucky. plans come crushing down because of birdstrikes…

I drive a Mach E. I got hit in the grill by a piece of truck tire that got kicked up by the car in front of me. Louvers were damaged but didn't seem that bad. Replace the louvers and be done. Wrong. It is one piece across the whole front of the car, cooling radiator directly behind them was slightly damaged. $2kUS and a week later to get back on the road.

I'm surprised the Porsche was not more expensive than that to fix

the only video of them actuating, are from pre-launch, i think...none of the many video reviews on YT from all the various countries...have had any footage of them actuatine.
mine stay open 24/7 ...Not even in the winter did they ever close.

Not even in the winter did they ever close.

They are open in winter when the car is turned off to prevent them from potentially freezing shut. I guess the battery being cold is less of a concern than the battery being hot.

The MME is such a great car, it looks good, is a ton of fun to drive and throw around, plus it gets tons of updates.

The only thing I really disliked about it was its charging curve, it charges so slowly…

I'm happy with mine. I do agree it charges slow and makes road trips much longer than I would like. I'm at 104k+ miles so it's time to start looking for a replacement. that's why I'm here...........really like the Macan
