In the spec I’m building for a new Macan order we’re strongly considering the electric roll up sun blinds for the rear windows. None of the cars at my nearest Porsche centre have them and I’m yet to find a used car that includes them.

Does anyone here have them (or have any experience of them) and can help me decide if they’re worth it? Or should I just accept that my brand new car is going to end up with a cheap sun shade with a cartoon character stuck on the side of it?

My most important question is whether they actually work as sun shades? They don’t cover the whole window so I’m a bit worried the kids will complain the sun is coming through the gaps.

Are they reliable?
Are they noisy?
How quickly do they go up and down?
Are they robust enough to withstand a curious toddler touching them or are they too delicate for family use?

Thanks in advance!

Hi!! I have a 4s model 2025 and i have them. They are just epic!! The boys sleeping in the bacj fall asleep so easily with them. They create a super cool privacy in the passengers behind. No noisy, very quick and they hide when they are closed. Also very important when you lock the doors, of course they lock. They dont look cheap. About robust they are very good but of course if someone pulls very hard, damage will happen. 100% recomended. If you want i can share a video with sound

Thanks for sharing eprokos! If you have a video I’d be very grateful to see them in action.

Do you also have privacy glass? We want to avoid it so our kids can look out the window and then use the blinds if it’s sunny.

I have them as well in my 2026. I am very pleased by the way they work, but keep in mind that they only cover the main rear window. The smaller bit next to the rear door is not covered (obviously as this little window is not part of the door). For my younger ones no problem and they really like them. Having said that, I would be slightly worried about a toddler fiddling around with them. The are attached to one (flexible yet strong) “pole” that drives upwards from within the door frame. Should they get a hold of that, they might damage it. Noise is not an issue. As already said: they operating (btw same as the sun roof) basically absolutely silent, quick and flawless.
I would absolutely recommend them either way. I also have the privacy-glass, which complements each other.

The best implementation by far was in the ICE Macan as they are manual pull up and hook type.
I agree that they are very practical for rear passenger comfort to block the sun, but given slanted roof, I would do a test if that would actually matter for the height of the person sitting there. My only vote to not option them is that they are mechanical and can break down and they split the leather of the rear door card look out of place when engaged (see pic). US cars all come with Privacy Glass on the rear windows so they are already tinted at around 20%, so if I would need to block more, I would go for a temp suction cup stick on shades and keep the door car leather intact.

Is this really blocking all of the sun? Does this look like the kids will jam it before you know it?

Like most people, I have privacy glass too. Those sitting at the back can clearly see everything outside. Privacy glass is primarily designed to stop people from seeing inside. So it's good to have.

The electric roll-up sun blinds are a good option. Other than its intended purpose, it has a better wow factor than, say, something like a Porsche crest on headrests, which gets hidden anyway when sitting.

I got the option simply because I thought my daughter would get a kick out of them. She gets in and says "sunshade on!" And giggles as they go brrrrr up. For me that was worth it, but they are also high quality and provide good coverage.

I also have privacy glass and I went further and put 70% (almost transparent) tint on for better UV, IR, and heat blocking, since I read that oem privacy glass is mainly just coloring and not coated for solar energy rejection. It is still very easy to see outside. Even at night.

I have them on my Macan and my 2021 Cayenne - I like them - I leave them up most of the time they keep the car cooler and decrease visibility into the rear seat when parked to deter someone looking for items in the back seat…

when they are an option I'll add them to the vehicle - I'm not sure there is a down side - you don't have to use them and if you order them you have the option to use them…

I recommend them.
