"Your Macan EV will consume a lot during the first kilometers (above 30 kWh/100 km) but will gradually adjust to normal values between 18-21 kWh/100 km."

This was one of the key points mentioned during my vehicle handover, and so far, I haven’t been able to validate it. After 1,200 km, I’m still firmly in the “your Macan EV will consume a lot” phase.

I’ve asked around a few times, but there doesn’t seem to be any official information on when or at what mileage we can expect this adjustment to occur.

That’s why I’d love to hear about your real-world experiences:
  • Have you noticed a reduction in consumption over time?
  • When did it start happening?
  • Was it tied to a specific mileage milestone?
I know there’s already a thread discussing general consumption figures, but my goal here is to focus specifically on the evolution of consumption.

Thanks in advance for sharing your insights!

Started at 18,6 kWh/100 km after first 1000 km then increased to 18,8 kWh/100 km after 8800 km but it's related to low temperatures we have now on the Alps. You have to take into consideration that in the first day you try to "test" hard the limit of the car (since there's no break-in with an EV) and so the consumption rises. But it's just my opinion.

@ukdriver those numbers are a bit misleading as most of your consumption was due to heating up the car. You only did 6 miles.

I have my 4S for almost 3 weeks now total mileage of 1600km. Went from Bruges, Belgium to Calais, France yesterday. Outdoor temperature at 4C. Mostly highway with burst to 160km/h and 50% cruise control at 120km/h.
I wonder how much improvement I’ll see during winter.

Nothing at all, I just use it as an ICE car (or as I used my Tesla M3LR). I don't use AC and I don't use auto regen (only brake regeneration and coasting). Bose always on, sometimes heater and seat warmer on.
BUT consider that my shortest trip (usually) is more than 50 km (speed from 50 km/h to 110 km/h - mountain, city and fast road). I

@Diego to what percentage do you charge your car, and what mileage is shown then on the guesometer ?

I

I believe the only way to truly assess this is to drive the car over the same short distance (around 20 km per trip) under consistent conditions for several days after receiving the car.

When I first received my car, I drove over 500 km straight home from Germany. It’s possible that most of the "break-in period" and normalization of consumption occurred during that trip because after that from one day to the next driving to work, I couldn't see much improvement after covering a certain number of kilometers. Some days, my commute to work seemed worse, even though factors like temperature, preheating usage, and average speed were fairly consistent, other days were better.

In the first image, you can see my return trip from the Alps - 528 km with temperatures ranging from -8°C to -1°C. The second image shows my overall consumption over six weeks and 4,300 km, with temperatures mostly between -13°C and +2°C.

So far I only use auto regen, I am thinking to switch it off and drive without it for a while and see.

Had to change my units of measure to match all of you, but this has been my experience in mild winter weather. It should only get better in summer.

do you have to change it via the car to see it in the app?
i always use mi/kWh to understand my efficiency

[edit] i found it...app settings.

seems like this is really distance depend. the longer the trip, the better it can calculate efficiency.
the last two trips where i was consuming 25 & 27 kWh/100km ...were only 4 miles long. But the trips with the 17-19, were 20-80 km long

I usually charge at 80% but what it shows depends on how I drive my last kms home (where I charges 98% of times) and on the external temperature.

I have heard that for the first few hundred miles that you do not get brake regeneration in order for the car to bed in the brakes and then it kicks in later improving efficiency, in addition the car needs sometime to calibrate its BMS (battery management system) to optimally calculate its own capacity and efficiency. I do not have a Macan yet, but this was the case for the Taycan.

As for why you have not yet seen improvement, I can't say.

My numbers are similar to @Diego. Our numbers are ~ 10% lower than his as half of our miles were on a long roadtrip with our 2 e-bikes on the back driving at 130kph (speed and bike rack don't make for great range!). Since we've returned from the trip, we're back to @Diego numbers: (20 kWh / 100 km).

Prior to the Macan, I drove a car with very strong recuperative breaking for 14 years. I was definitely a "one-pedal driver". When I first got our Macan, I turned on the regen as it it felt "normal" to me to have the car slow down when I took my foot off the pedal.

@Diego mentioned he didn't use regen so I wanted to see what happened if I turned it off. My partner has done the same. We are both firmly in the "ex-one pedal driving club". Turning off regen counterintuitively seems to have a positive impact on range. But, more importantly (for me): the sensation of gliding at fast speeds is something that gives us both great pleasure. I'm happy to apply the break when I need to slow down, but being able to glide down a country road in near silence is something I'm not willing to give up (now):).
