Broken windshield through ignorance - did not know that hand gestures even accidental can open frunk. They do!

Motions like polishing can also open the frunk. I did this and the opening is so strong it drove my worklight through the windshield.

I suspect this may be the reason some people think the frunk opens on its own. There is no 2nd release. Wave your hand the right way doing anything and it will open. This can be turned off, I did not know it was turned on. The opening force is strong enough to drive a small battery powered worklight through the windshield.

The gestures (bonnet/boot) only work when you have the key on you or in the vicinity of the bonnet/boot.
When I wash the car key stays inside the house.
It's impossible to open it by mistake using gestures.
Learned this the easy way / first time I was drying the rear of the car and the boot opened.
The 2nd time was sufficiently more butt clenching, I was cleaning the interior and pressed with the drying cloth the button for the bonnet while my wipers or wiper was still in the upright position. I was immediately seeing $$$$$ worth of damage but luckily got away with it. It was probably 1 wiper as I'm sure if you try it with both you will damage the bonnet. I don't go near the door buttons now when the wipers are upright.
I'm sorry you had to learn the hard / expensive way.

I've found it's also easy to accidentally press the frunk button, just by having it in my pocket. I've come back from an errand and found the thing wide open, never knew it opened.

It's also difficult to close. I never use it because of that. Also... why you got a work light on your hood

yeah, just put the keys out of the range when cleaning/washing the car. If you're if a car wash tunnel, use the brake "hold" instead of putting it in park...

I've opened the frunk maybe 15-20 times by mistake and 1-2 times on purpose. The button on the key FOB will activate just from my pocket - without my hand even in the pocket, with a light brush, possibly from my leg. I've come back to my frunk open 3-4 times. bummer. And the gesture mechanism is also overthought engineering. My frunk has popped open from an unintentional gesture perhaps 10 times. Plus the frunk should definitely have a safety latch - it should not just fly open.

I didn't realize the key activation can be turned off. But yes - I'd love to keep the trunk function and turn off the frunk, which seems to be much more sensitive. I've never had the trunk open on it's own - perhaps because of the button location on the fob.

And OMG - yes - I find the frunk way to difficult to close too! Geez.

This is definitely one of my pet peeves, on a car I overall love.

By the way a LONG Hold or Double press on the key FOB would have been a good idea.

It seems every video reviewer did too, as they tried to slam it shut. This is the wrong way to close the Frunk.

The Frunk mechanism is actually 2 stage. It opens to a hooked position, and then releases that hook to open fully on the springs. The button/wave operation does both of these in order to make it seem like a single thing.

To close, you push it gently to the hooked position, and then push firmly on the Porsche logo to latch it fully closed.

I have almost no success (maybe 2 out of 10) with waving/kicking my foot to open the Trunk however!

Many people taking swirls out have a small magnetic light that can be used while working. You can of course stop work, get the light, look, get the machine, and start again. We also use bigger lights for general lighting. About a $2,300 lesson. I suspect many of the people claiming mysterious hood / frunk opening here are actually witnessing the same thing. Game plan is to shut it off, wish the front and rear were separate. Although our Explorer ST tow vehicle has it in the rear and it has struck an unsuspecting stranger. So now it is shut off.

PS Absolutely amazing car. And my wife picked it out, it is a stunner, people walk up and say wow, what is that. Interior too.

frunk close top tip from dealer, use the porsche badge as area to push harder on to close - not the bonnet (hood) panel area... works nice for me every time

I had a SA tell me that too and then proceeded to take three tries to close the frunk on the model on the lot 😆 , but yeah that's best spot to press.

I had to laugh because at lunch today, i had my small dog in my arms, key in my jeans pocket, walked past the trunk, and it opened.

I have no problem closing the frunk, the SA showed me how to use my forearm to gently push down until the mechanism grabs the frunk and closes it. You need to be gentle with this lady and just let her do her thing. The forearm spreads the load so you don't need to be precise about where you are pushing.

I've never got the hang of kicking her in the rear to open the tailgate, however.

On a previous car I also had issues with finding the tailgate open. I made a plastic snap on key fob guard that solved it. I've done the same tor the Macan fob.
