We ran into a fun problem this week that I thought I would report. I dropped off my wife at an errand stop and she left her fob in the center cup holder. I got out of the car and opened the tailgate to remove something and then tried to close the tailgate. It would close and then re-open. This happened a number of times until I called my wife to find out if she had her key. Then I searched the car for it, found it, and removed it from the car. The tailgate closed normally.

Minor heart attack of tailgate refusing to close in the rain. It reminded me of my Audi RS4 trunk re-opening every time I tried to shut it with the key fob in my golf bag.

interesting... I haven't had that issue, but i had a similar situation. I had something in the back. got to my destination, opened the trunk, took it out...and was standing at the back talking for a few minutes.
when that was finished, i tried to close the trunk....nothing happened. Multiple times..pressing the button...nothing.
So i tried the button the door....nothing....
What eventually did work, was holding the button to make it close and lock...

I’ve had a problem even when the second fob is not in the car. It is a known problem and my car has been at the dealer since Friday regarding this and once before. i get the feeling this may be a recall issue for some cars, but supposedly there is a fix and it’s applied to my car. Will update my post when I get the car back

I’ve had the issue for both open and close and have been able to work around it each time by prying it open with my fingers when it won’t open and slamming it when it won’t close. Obviously not the kind of experience you want to have long term

Don’t think it’s a problem your dealer can fix. It’s a safety feature to keep you from locking the vehicle while your key fob is still inside. It’s the same on my Taycan, the rear hatch won’t close if the key fob isn’t in proximity of the back of the vehicle. You’ll notice you can’t lock the doors either when your key fob is inside the vehicle. That’s probably a good thing!

Just for clarification here,

(1) *my* key fob was in my pocket and always in proximity of the vehicle
(2) The car was unlocked. I tried kick to close (shut the door but it immediately reopened), the left button (shut the back door) and it had the same problem, and the right button (shut the back door and lock) and it had the same result.
(3) the 2nd key fob sitting in the cupholder doesn't seem that different than the 2nd key being in a passenger's pocket ... unless the car actually knows that no one is in the passenger seat and uses that in the calculations.
(4) there appears to be no way to manually shut the door

Had I not found the key, my next step would have been to try to use PCM to shut off comfort access and then shut the door. But (to me) this was crazy.
