I've now put on about 1,000kms on my Macan Turbo and have just received my second "replace battery in key" message. The first one, I thought maybe the battery it came with was old, so I replaced with a brand new Energizer battery. Now, after about 3 weeks, I'm getting the "replace battery" message. There is no way that a battery of that kind can die so quickly in a key fob.

Anybody else have this issue??

Do you have "Comfort Access" or not?

Does this happen with both keys or the same one?

Maybe just a defective key fob? My Taycan used to send me that warning a lot. I also know the fobs are finicky about the exact battery used, I can't remember what the recommendation was with the Taycan.

if you have two keys, did you change the battery in both? or just one?

Just one. I'm going to try using the other fob and see if that one lasts longer.

i was wondering if the alert was actually for the other remote... the one you didn't change.

I don't think so. The second fob has been sitting in my house since the day I picked up the car. I keep both keys in a faraday box so I don't think either key is trying to "communicate" with the car while it's parked in the garage.

I'm now on at least my 10th battery change (have had to change them in both fobs). Eventually Porsche just ordered two new key fobs from Germany assuming the original two were defective. Got the new ones programmed about 3 weeks ago and just got my first low battery warning. It's like clockwork. Every 3 weeks. Nobody can figure out why.

Are the keys normally kept within 30 feet of the car? If so, it could be the UWB radio is staying active in the key instead of shutting down (UWB uses a lot more energy than NFC).

About half the time, I'm at the office and the key is nowhere near the car. When at home, my key is kept in a faraday box by the front door, about 20 feet away from the car.

Is the faraday box grounded? Without grounding it is just a metal cage which will only attenuate the signals, and the signal from the car may be powerful enough for the key to sense and keep itself on.

What do you mean by "grounded"?

For a true faraday cage, the cage needs to be connected to something to either absorb or dissipate the RF energy. Most typically it would be connected to the electrical ground for the building.
