On February 27, 2025, I picked up my brand new Porsche Macan 4. I am a first time Porsche owner, but have been driving an electric BMW for eight years and love the EV technology. I immediately noticed a warning light (see image) and brought the car in for service on March 20, 2025. Porsche identified a defect in a camera. After a three week wait for the new camera, it was installed and immediately blew "a module" in the car, rendering it completely undrivable. My car has been sitting at the service center for seven weeks and counting. It's been there longer than the amount of time I have driven the car, with no end in sight.

Porsche has offered me $29K to keep the car. I am not choosing this option as firstly, I do not currently have possession of the car and don't know when I ever will, and secondly, if they ever fix this problem I have zero confidence that they will be able to fix the next problem that comes along. So, I have made a buy back request of Porsche. I had high hopes for this car, it has so many wonderful features. But, in my experience, Porsche has released a car that is not ready for prime time

That’s very sad, and my reaction would be similar to yours. It, however, seems most of the owners haven’t had an equivalent experience. I wonder how much of the situation is due to Porsche vehicle inherent quality and how much is due to dealer service (lack of) performance.

when this happend to me with my 2021 Cayenne - my wife and I were distraught - but ultimately decided there really was no other product that met our needs - so we toughed it out - took the money from Porsche (and other accommodations we negotiated at the time) - and since then Porsche ultimately fixed the vehicle and it's been great ever since.

but yeah - not all cars are flawless - modern manufacturing still yields a certain percentage of products with "faults" - it's an expected outcome and no manufacture has a perfect run of cookies from the cookie cutter - and some will be defective.

the question is what vehicle are you going to purchase with effectively the same money (price paid - minus Porsche incentive to fix the car)…and will you be as happy? IN the case of my Cayenne in exchange for waiting a few months for a software update - I got a 2021 Cayenne TurboS eHybrid for a total price that would anyone jump at the chance to have that vehicle for that price!

not all Macan EV's are bad products - mine for example has nearly zero issues. But I'm certain some Macan EV's need some post manufacturing TLC to bring them up to snuff. It's a factual outcome for all vehicle manufacturers - I've owned a lot of vehicles from a lot of manufactuers. None of them are immune.

my wife's 2011 BMW 335 iX was DOA with a bad transmission @ 357 miles and the BMW dealer that sold it to us took 6 months to fix it - and were far less graceful than Porsche at dealing with the need to resolves the issue.

so let's not pretend one vendor is fault-less and Porsche is only one that has these issues - problems like this are universally possible and often occur across all major manufacturers.

good luck with your next vehicle.

to be clear I'm 100% certain some Macan EV's have problems like this - and I'm also certain some dealers are less than graceful at dealing with the problems.

and when you happen to be the customer impacted by these sorts of problems it sucks (it's happened to me and it sucks)

but it by no means indicative that the entire fleet of vehicle's have these problems. It's most often a representation of expected and typical levels of failure in mass produced products. No manufacturer is immune to a certain percentage of "issues" in their products - regardless of your personal past experience.

my attitude over the years when encountering these issues with any manufacturer - is to use the situation to my advantage and leverage as much as I can in tangible accommodation in exchange for my pain, suffering, and infinite patience in waiting for them to fix it. I only do this if ultimately however I believe the functional version of the product is something I ultimately want more than the alternatives.

but let's be clear - this isn't a fleet wide problem with all Macan's - it happens to some instances of these cars, and it about the same percentage as other cars in the Porsche fleet, and in about the same percentage as most car from most manufacturers.

I’m sorry that happened to you. When I got my BMW iX a few years back, after a month of ownership it sat at the shop for six weeks waiting for a part. Luckily they paid the payment that month and gave me a loaner the whole time, so it was bearable. All in all it has ended up being a great car despite the hiccups.

It happens occasionally, doesn’t mean the model is garbage, but I understand why you would say so.

6 months 5500mi. in all I have is the occasional annoying rear passenger buzzing.
Sorry you have so many problems but it’s tough to say the vehicle is not ready for prime time. The Taycan is 5 years old now and this vehicle is approaching 2.

@starfishmars did you get your car through special ordering via configurator and the rest procedure or did you get it by choosing one of the already availables at the dealership?
In any case I feel sorry with what you've been through,I'll also become 1st time Porsche owner this autumn (my 4S order locks in a couple of weeks) and I can feel your situation as much as possible.

another EU car with problems...
idk if anyone else is paying attention, but I swear issues are more prevalent on EU cars than US. It makes think this is a software problem...

I too am a first time porsche owner with the Macan 4S... luckily, i've no major issues. Any issues i've had, has resovled itself as well.

... Seems uncertain it's an EU car, even though the German flag appears in OP's profile he states he's living in San Francisco 😉. Unless he's FROM SF and living in Germany ATM.

...In the case OP got an EU car, this one can't be a photo of the actual car he purchased simply because this is taken inside a US dealership and these cars - the one at the front as well the other one at the back on the right - are clearly US cars as only such a car is equipped with the additional turning signal lights at the front of the front wheel arch, a design specially made for the US market. ;)

hmmm - $29k to keep the car as a cash payment -makes the effective cost of the car 49,800…

there is nothing on the market as good as a Macan 4 for $49,800

I'd negotiate the following:
  • cash payment as noted
  • use of a loaner indefinitely until Porsche can resolve the issues
  • cover any payments while the car is being serviced
  • CPO for 6 years/unlimited miles
  • 4 years included service
  • any accessories you want (floor mats, etc)
even if they take 2 months to fix it - that's $15k/month - pretty good "wage" for driving someone else's car while they fix it.

basically whenever Porsche screws up I look at them like an ATM machine…cause they really really don't like to do buy backs - while my 2021 Cayenne was being fixed I put 8000 miles on a loaner - 8000 miles that were not on my Cayenne…

a small change in perspective and this can work to your advantage - but that's just me.
