Yeah, far is subjective. From the anxious EV driver's point of view, 10 more miles range is far.

If driven similarly, I think the wider turbo tires may suck up more range than just about anything else.

They were referring to guessometer experience before the comparison video so it was not apples to apples (like). Based on a very small data set. To them it seemed like the RWD would get far better range but that was based on very different driving style and perhaps environment. The RWD had less than a week on it and we all know how things change after a month and 500 miles or so. The RWD should get better range, but the range thread here seems to show significantly different miles per kWh for very similar optioned Macans. Not many RWD there though.

I'd suspect that an efficient turbo driver would get more range than an inefficient RWD driver...

Don't get me wrong, it is a very good video and the comparison is valid for the sunny days and country roads. They made that clear. For example, It is otherwise widely accepted that RWS is of great benefit all around, but especially maneuvering in the city and when pushing through twisty roads and cross country driving. But is not worth it for everyone, and not for a car whose primarily a grocery getter with the Porsche feel. Opinions all.

Yeh RWS isnt needed IMO for most drivers who can park and many say that it “darts” around at higher speeds and makes passengers feel abit nauseous. My salesman (20 years at Porsche) told me that it really wasnt needed but thats a different debate.

My main takeaway from this video was the views on RWD base model as daily driver compared to the faster and more expensive models, which such as the Turbo I struggle to understand the need for that much power if its to be used as primary grocery getter. I guess all depends on individual circumstances.

The RWD drives and feels like a Porsche, no doubt. This thread is about how RWD compares to AWD, ive seen strong arguments and considerations for both, so it’s proving very useful indeed and Im thankful for everyone’s input

When I drove the RWD loaner for a few days (put almost 600miles on it), I was getting 4.5mi/kWh… where I would get 3.7-3.8mi/kWh with my Turbo.

I agree that a more efficient driver on a Turbo will get a better mileage than an inefficient driver on the RWD.

But same driver, similar weather conditions, similar driving style, hard to argue the RWD gets better mileage. And the difference wasn’t just going from 21” to 20” wheels.

Yeh in the video i think the same drivers drove the same road RWD 22’s and Turbo 22s, so think its a pretty decent/fair comparison

Anyway this wasnt a debate about range, I’ll likely not be getting nowhere close to these numbers when mine arrives

My salesman said the same, that RAS is not really necessary in this size car, although I was keen to get it after so many liking it. But I was dismissed here by some that salesmen are clueless even though salesmen's aim to sell more, not less.
The two gentlemen in this video here made the same point about not being necessary in this size car.
Although, I do understand RAS is very useful for those parking in tight garages. I park on-street.
But the argument, that it's better at higher speeds, is a moot point. Porsche has a pedigree of making great handling cars without it as well.
As for RWD, my previous cars (BMWs) had all been RWD - good handling and I liked them. Except my first ever car when I learned to drive was a Datsun Sunny, a front-wheel drive
By the way, at Silverstone Porsche Experience day, I was given base RWD, and the chance to drift a couple of times. It was good fun.

The Porsche track instructor at the LA Experience Center said RWS is one of the better options, presumably because it improves high speed handling. He specifically mentioned this, saying, “Oh, good, you got the RWS.” Does the Macan handle well without it? Of course, but it handles better with it. My view is that if ordering an S or Turbo, one should be selecting performance options like RWS and PTV as well.
