Interesting article in Autoexpress. Apparently, the software (using AI) monitors the battery for faults and notifies the owner before it becomes a problem, so it can be sorted by a dealer. I wonder if this is because the major issues with the Taycan batteries or similar may be feared to exist in the Macan. Taycans are waiting for a software update to do just that and in the meantime apparently they mustn't charge above 80% or in a garage.

i really don't think progress has to be born out of issues all the time. Every electronic device monitors the battery in some way... They're just reporting to data back to Porsche. I don't think its because they fear of some issue. It's just data for them analyze and improve upon...

If anything....I'd worry about this data being used against customers if there's a need for a warranty claim. They can pull data saying, "well you didn't charge it this way" or "you charged too much that way" ... blah blah blah...in order to deny a claim implying the issue was caused by the owner

I've wondered why the reports generally say DC charging constantly can degrade the battery and yet there are no restrictions on the battery warranty. It makes no reference to charging restrictions.

For my sins I previously had a Lexus RZ and the charging system prevented DC charging more than twice in 24 hrs. With a real range of about 150 miles not much use for road trips.

I'm sure you're right regards the announcement - it's just a capability to monitor without being installed due to a concern. I visit a Taycan forum and there are lots of posts about major battery issues and the monitoring software not being available so they still have restricted charging usage.

I actually read the contracts when I bought my car and it pretty explicitly said they had the right to do this, so I assumed they were doing it. And I'm glad they're doing it. I would have thought it was malpractice not to do it.
